About

My boyfriend and I had been wanting to take salsa lessons for a long time when we found Arati on Thumbtack. She made it really easy for us to finally see this goal of ours through! She was very flexible, and setting up a schedule for private lessons was easy. She's an awesome teacher - friendly, knowledgable and fun. She also designed the lessons to fit our interests in the dance, and after four private lessons, we had improved dramatically. I hope to take another class with her one day soon!

About

I am one of Davids students and I can tell you he is an excellent music teacher as well as producer and vocal coach. I started my piano lessons with David and within 3 or so months I was already playing full songs. Currently I am recording an album project at Posterity Studios with David as my producer/engineer and vocal coach. I can tell you that so far what has been pre-produced is very impressive and I am enjoying the direction the album is taking. Not only am I having David provide some of the music, but I also have live instrumentation being recorded as well....guitars, drums, and bass along with my background vocalist. So if you are looking to take lessons for piano or for vocal lessons or plan on cutting an album, Posterity Studios is the place to go. I am pleased with the lessons and also with the work David is doing on my album project.

About

Though I am greatly annoyed that Thumbtack has bugged me for a review since before my first lesson with her, and though I am only part way through my FIRST set of lessons, I am very pleased with Linda. She is a consummate professional and extraordinarily talented instructor: enthusiastic, energetic, patient, firm and dozens more superlative adjectives. What I might have worried would be an impossible and overwhelming process is a delightful, joyous and entertaining adventure.

Jan is an amazing instructor, especially for beginners. She is able to identify your vocal range, what style fits you best and how to improve within a short amount of time. Your improvement does depend on practicing outside of the lessons so spend a lot of time singing aloud! Jan is very encouraging and pin points areas for progress. I came into the lessons with no knowledge of music or my style of vocals, but now I am able to understand music notes and sing on my own. I am thankful to have found her.

I have been taking voice lessons since the age of 7, and after having only one voice lesson with Anette I have learned so much! I didn't realize how many concepts about the physical aspect of singing I did not fully understand. She is very knowledgeable on the subject and simplifies it so it's easier to comprehend. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about singing, Anette will surprise you!

Tim Russell was truly helpful in teaching me how to sing, and his lessons were always very enjoyable. He is really good at making you feel comfortable in his classes. He understands how to enable a person reach their maximum singing potential. As a beginner, I had no previous training, but he was extremely patient with me and made me feel more comfortable with my singing voice. As our lessons went on, he incorporated more vocal exercises in order to help me achieve new areas with my voice. He was very effective at adapting his coaching while I got better at singing. My voice literally transformed in ways that I had previously thought impossible. I literally went from receiving dirty looks to applause when I sang! All this was done with just 16 lessons with Mr. Russell, and I am eternally grateful. He truly loves his job and is both passionate and knowledgeable about his field, and I strongly recommend him as a vocal coach.

About

I've now had two lessons with Hannah at the Pop Vocal Academy and I'm really loving it. I'm already starting to see improvement, and I'm having my third lesson tomorrow. She is very encouraging and supporting, and really knows what she is talking about. I've been taking classical lessons for years, and it's really something different taking pop lessons, but Hannah is definitely making it easier for me to make the most of my voice within the pop genre. I definitely recommend taking lessons with the Pop Vocal Academy.

About

My fiance wanted to learn to dance for our first dance at our wedding and found Jes online. We started with the basic classes and really enjoyed it so we kept at it for 3 more months, also took some private lessons that helped tremendously! Come our wedding day, we had a wonderful first dance, really enjoyed ourselves and got rave reviews from our family and friends. Now that the wedding is over, we are going to continue with the lessons. We really enjoy dancing and Jes has been a great teacher, never pushing us too far, always explaining the reasoning to the steps and how they will build to other steps. Not only is Jes a great teacher, she's a great dancer and really inspires us to keep learning and trying new things.

AMAZING! Bourque definately makes sure you sing with technique, and she will NOT expect anything less! She provides a relaxed atmosphere to avoid straining/damaging your vocal cords, but this does not mean her lessons are easy. The results I've noticed in my own voice over the past few months is incredible. I feel more at ease, and yet more powerful than I did before. She is extremely educated in her craft and completely approachable as a person. Without a doubt an amazing teacher and woman. I recommend her 100% and beyond!

Working with Michael Jacobs has been an incredibly positive experience! Michael is a highly skilled, creative, passionate, and nurturing voice teacher, and lessons are always purposeful and engaging. He creates a safe space in his studio, allowing for plenty of risk taking, which essential for personal and vocal growth! I cannot speak more highly of him!

Are there more stars??? Amazing teacher! Attentive, active, assertive - she will not steer you wrong. Maria works with YOUR voice and YOUR body and really takes the time to observe what you’re already doing and make sure you understand the practice of what you’re doing… and that’s in addition to “just” training your voice and making you a better singer and artist. This training is individualized— unique to you… because you will learn differently than other people and Maria understands that and gets at the heart of YOUR unique voice. You can’t learn this stuff from a book or a website. I tried for years to “teach myself” with CD’s, DVD’s and youtube videos. You can’t gauge your own progress and you’ll never catch on to your established bad musculature habits, which is where so many vocal setbacks stem from. My voice responded immediately to Maria’s technique and I heard a difference at the very first lesson. After just a few lessons, I literally got more compliments and more professional work. And now I’m starting to understand “what” I’m doing instead of just guessing at it and hoping my voice comes through. She really gets it! Your voice is a muscle and needs time, consistency and proper training. She’s the best. Bar none.

Ed was recommended to me as a voice teacher by a good friend and fellow musician. I took voice lessons with Ed weekly for eight months until he moved from Virginia to Washington state. We will soon resume lessons using Skype. From the first lesson, I experienced immediate improvement with my singing. Ed is extremely knowledgeable and experienced regarding music in general, and using the voice as a musical instrument in particular. I feel very fortunate to have found him, and because of his easygoing nature, we have become good friends along the way. Ed's calm and comfortable personality makes the instructional process a very positive experience, and his depth of knowledge and experience regarding singing and performing in general will impress, if not amaze you. One of the projects we undertook as teacher and student was to prepare me for a vocal competition. I chose a song, and we dissected it, phrase by phrase, during the lessons leading up to the competition. No detail was left to chance including important aspects of the performance of the song, beyond just the singing. I had a great a great deal of confidence and a very enjoyable experience performing in the competition as a result. Ed obviously loves his work as an instructor because he is a lover of music, and it comes through in every interaction. I am very excited to resume my voice lessons with Ed using Skype. The only aspect of the entire experience that I would like to see changed or done differently would be if he decided to move back to Virginia and be our neighbor again!

Anissa was my voice trainer before I left NYC for college. I learned so much from her. I've always loved to sing and no one could stop me from singing all the time, but I wasn't stage ready. Lessons from Anissa were an essential part of me becoming the kind of singer I happy to be today. She always stressed the importance of proper breathing, good posture and enunciation and used exercises to help me work on those things. She was very patient and understanding but she also helped me get over my fears and push past my comfort zone. She helped me to discover that I had a wider range than I thought I did. She is an amazing teacher and I used her techniques throughout college and even taught them to peers in my college choir. I like that she offers one-on-one training and will work with the styles you are interested (I liked alternative and gospel) in learning but also introduce you to genres that can enhance your repertoire (ex: I learned Se Tu M'ami and Someone To Watch Over Me). I highly recommend using Anissa as your voice trainer.

I was somewhat worried about starting piano lessons at 36 years old, but thankfully I found Sage Music. I couldn't imagine a better place to learn music than with Jason and his team. They take the time to make sure you understand the mechanics (mental and physical) in playing an instrument, and the pace of learning is set by the individual. Highly recommend Sage Music.

I have had many voice teachers and found Tom to be OUTSTANDING.. I had always had some trouble with my breath which other teachers were unable to break through. Tom gave me the foundation I needed to overcome that roadblock and that foundation has opened many doors in my singing.. His teaching is clear and fun and effective. He is great at finding the instructions which work for each student.. if one approach does not work he is flexible and smart in finding other approaches and growing in his understanding of each student and what each needs. I have moved to the other coast but i find his teaching is still helping me and i continue to find new meaning in things he taught me. Just tonight I noticed my voice was not steady but my breath was there. I remembered things he said about vowels and found new ways to make the vowels consistent and steady the voice. Since i moved I have seen in others' faces some of the tensions i held and still hold. These faces have proved to be effective mirrors and seeing them makes me smile (his teaching is liberating). He works with a wide repertoire with ease .... I took lessons for several years.. He is great as a coach supporting continued growth, and is a good troubleshooter for more specific goals with the voice. I am very grateful to Tom for opening my voice and for the teaching that keeps taking me new places long after my work with him.

I asked for a professional vocal coach for my 11 year daughter. As a singer, (in a former life), I knew that the task would be daunting. I needed someone who understood that her age is critical in regards to potential damage of her vocal chords and any future ambitions she may have to sing professionally. My first conversation with Ms. Lockhart was enlightening. Not only did she put my fears to rest, but explained how she would be "coaching" her in the proper breathing, posture and poise. After our first meeting, my daughter pulled me aside and said "Can we have a lesson next week?" So, we have started a wonderful relationship with Ms. Lockhart, and am very pleased with my daughters' progress. She has even been willing to travel to our home in order to continue. I would recommend her services to anyone. Thank you!

Brenda is so welcoming, friendly, and informative. She's really communicative about the relationship between your body, breathe, and voice. In just a few lessons, I've seen vast improvement in every aspect of my singing and, equally as important, my confidence. I always look forward to my lessons and am excited to continue developing as a singer with her guidance.

I can't say enough about Abby. Not only is she wonderful at teaching pure technique, but she starts off every lesson with some guided meditation, which relaxes you and makes you feel safe and comfortable both with her, and with yourself. Since studying with her, my range has improved vastly, my belt has grown and become so easy that it doesn't even feel like I'm belting (I was pushing like crazy before I started with Abby), and I now have a legit range, which I honestly thought I didn't even possess. And if all of this isn't enough, she's an incredibly nurturing and caring teacher: she always checks in, is supportive of whatever you're doing, and she's great at helping you find material. Also, she's a working professional herself, which is incredibly encouraging as a student (I've been to her shows, and she practices what she preaches). I can't recommend her highly enough.

Everyone wants to make sure they're getting their moneys worth when it comes to music lessons & their teachers. Matt is worth every penny. Briefly about myself, I've been involved in music for over 20+ years playing various instruments, so I've had a number of teachers along the way. I'm also the type of guy that has his girlfriend tell him to be quite when singing in the car because my voice is that bad. Far from an ideal situation. Well I may not be going on tour any time soon, my voice has made a vast haul forward. Matt has been a huge help in fixing many of my vocal issues. He's clearly a professional in his field, and his knowledge about his craft is evident immediately. Not only was he able to address my specific issues with voice, but also help correct me while being completely personable. He knows what is applicable and important for the student to learn, and what's unnecessary at the time. He's more than happy to help a student learn a repertoire that they're into musically while still fitting with their voice, or assisting with some of the more classic pieces he helped provide. Like I said I've taken many private lessons along the way in the world of music. Theres some bad teachers out there, an abundance of decent teachers, and a few great teachers. Matt is a great teacher. Book lessons with him, you won't regret it.

I had the pleasure of having a lesson with LaAerial she was accessible and helped me feel at ease with singing in front of someone. She helped me learn to listen to my voice and she was extremely well versed in communicating to me my strengths and weaknesses, as well as simply listening to my voice overall. It was inspiring to share the time I spent wit her. I would happily recommend her to an aspiring and or professional singer.
