Introduction: *In-person lessons will begin in NYC in August. See you VERY soon!* *Online lessons will continue indefinitely for students outside of NYC* Hello and welcome! As an active performer based in New York City, I have had a wide range of experience singing in both classical, musical theater, and choral settings. Whether you have specific concerns about your vocal technique or function, or you are interested in working on any current repertoire, I work to make lessons that are tailored to you. I've been teaching private lessons since 2017, and I absolutely love working with students. In addition to singing, I can also help with music theory, language and diction coaching, and musicality. I have a Bachelors's degree in Vocal Performance and a Master of Music degree from the Mannes School of Music in NYC. I have performed over ten leading operatic roles, given multiple song recitals, and have taken lessons with some of the most distinguished singers and teachers in the world. I have also sung at world-class concert halls, such as Benaroya Hall, Scorca Hall in the National Opera Center, and Carnegie Hall. In addition to my vocal study, I have had extensive training in piano, taking private lessons myself as well as piano coursework in both my undergraduate and graduate music programs. I absolutely love teaching piano and would love to get you started on your musical journey! I focus heavily on creating individualized, focused lessons for all singers, from beginner to advanced. I am passionate about helping singers gain confidence through vocal study. I bring my performance experience and expertise from some of the world-class musicians I have had the chance to work with. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you to achieve your goals! When I am not singing, I am a Registered Yoga Teacher and professional grant writer for opera companies and arts organizations. Art is my life, and I could not be happier!

I loved my lessons with Marissa. Even though we have done them virtually, I have learned so much. She is very approachable and kind, but she also really knows a lot about singing. She helped me find music that I love singing and I am very happy with how she has helped me in such a short period of time.

Marissa worked with my daughters and was incredible. Not only was she supportive and kind, but taught them so much about music and singing. She was also great working with both of them individually, which attests to her knowledge because they both worked on completely different musical styles. I would recommend Marissa to anybody.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing is quite straight forward, and I am not offering any group discounts at the moment due to COVID. However, please note, that due to COVID I am offering a few sliding scale voice lessons at a discounted rate for new students. Please let me know if this is something that you would be interested in by contacting me.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I love to get to know potential students and learn what their goals and aspirations are and how I can help them achieve those goals. I love to learn new things, so even if a student comes to me and wants to sing music that I am not familiar with, I will always see it as a new challenge and develop a lesson plan specifically for that student and their needs.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Master of Music degree in Voice from Mannes School of Music and a Bachelor if Music from Pacific Lutheran University. I also am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), and have completed my 200 Hour Yoga Certification and am registered with YogaAlliance. Additionally, I have been teaching since 2017, and have sung a multitude of operatic roles, concert solos, and choral works. I have been in multiple professional choirs as a soloist, section leader, and chorister.
