The work was done well, but way overpriced. We had agreed on $200 for creating a garden bed along my fence. I agreed to this because I assumed it would be a 2 1/2 - 3 hour job. It took the workman exactly 1 1/2 hours and that works out to $135 an hour! I will not use their services again.

Rich called me immediately and met me around my schedule. He gave me a great price for cleanup, planted shrubs and mulch for my beds. It came out great!! I liked it so much that I contracted him to cut my lawn. My neighbors liked him too and he got 2 more jobs on my street. Great sense of humor too!

I have been looking for a proper gardener for some time now when I thought of posting my request on thumbtack. Despite being a sunday , I got a response from Javier within a few minutes. We met the next day and he was quick to give me quote. I wanted some modifications and he sent me changed quote. He came promptly on the designated day and did a very impressive job. I intend having him come back in spring to put up a vegetable patch in my backyard.

Luca, had to pull up sod that was dying, rebrick around some plants, plant grass seeds and place some mulch around 4 plants and a plant strip. He said he would be at my house by 8 a.m. He was outside working on my yard before 6:30 a.m. and completed the job before 9:30 a.m. Luca not only was on time, but he also did an excellent job. I intend to use his services for any landscaping job that I have. He comes highly recommended. Thank you Luca.😊

Honest. Hard working. Meticulous. Clean. On time. If you can get Luden and his crew you're in luck. Hands down the best that I have worked with. They dig mulching, dig in unique flower beds, spring clean up, light planting and garden tilling. Great guys. Will use again.

I have had Don take care of my garden in midtown Manhattan for many years. He really knows which plants will grow in my limited sunlight. This year he installed a drip system which will be a great help in the hot summer months. Don also knows the best places to buy plants at good prices. As an added plus, he is cheerful, nice guy!

Was in desperate need of a backyard makeover after buying my house 4 months ago and fighting nonstop to bring the yard back to life myself. I finally gave up and let the professionals handle it. Anthony, Chris and the team fought a downpour and delays but got the job done in a day, 1450ft of sod, planted grasses and plants and roses, mulched the flower beds, put in a walkway of blue stone pavers. I finally have a yard I am proud to look at. Cant wait to see it in about 2 weeks when the sod starts to grow and the plants roots take hold, thanks again guys

Dana did amazing work and she is so sweet!!I had to plan my NYC wedding all the way from Canada with a specific budget and Dana always did her very best to work with my request and budget! I did not get to meet with Dana until the day of the wedding or get to view the ceremony/reception venue with her in person so I was nervous...but there was nothing to worry about at all! She produced amazing bouquets and made sure everything was delivered on time. Most importantly, her beautiful work was worth the price. She was very honest with pricing and included the types of flowers/greenery and supplies in the contract so it reflects the pricing. If you look at the photos.... the garlands on the railings were re-used for the Reception dinner table!! From the beginning she was fairly quick to respond and made sure she was available for you to contact her in many ways.

Kara was excellent! She was knowledgeable and provided us with in-depth information regarding the existing flowers, plants and trees we have in the new home we moved into, as well as what to do to care for them. She identified and described each (we had no idea what most were as new gardeners!) Additionally, we have several areas in our garden that receive varying levels of light and shade so she guided us in determining what we can plant in each. Super friendly, punctual and overall wonderful! Exactly what we needed!

Luca planted flowers in my garden. He did a great job. Showed up the day before to survey the property and then came early the next to do the work. It took about three hours and he cleaned up afterwards. Well done, highly recommend!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
