Last April my husband and I had the pleasure of having Mariko and her companion, Sophia, play for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. Initially, we conversed via email and she sent over samples of her playing bits of the selected classical pieces my husband and I wanted played at our wedding. Upon meeting her in person, she was just as warm and friendly as she was over email, which made coordinating with her and ease and lovely experience. While we had a list of several pieces for our procession, this did not deter her, she relished the challenge and made terrific suggestions for smooth transitions into every piece. She was as professional as she was the talented violinist and knew how to arrange the music flow. It was such a delight to have her and Sophia playing at our wedding. They both arrived early and set the mood for the beginning of the journey my husband and I was anticipating all day. We were even more overjoyed that they were able to play a mix of jazz and pop during our cocktail hour. Their playing added to the natural beauty of our venue, which made the occasion as more romantic for us – it was just the right touch to our special day, and the PERFECT balance to the loud partying later that night. We would highly recommend Mariko to anyone looking for a bright, warm, friendly, and brilliant violin player; and her companion Sophia whom is equally a talented and lovely violist.

I have been learning how to play violin with Mariko for almost 3 years. Mariko is an amazing teacher with a lot of patience. She has taught me the basics from how I should stand, how to position my arms and the proper way of holding a violin. She charges a reasonable amount for how much you learn within just one session, especially in NYC. Normally, you would feel intimidated by a teacher but I have never felt that way around Mariko. She has welcomed me with a warm smile in the beginning of every lesson and has encouraged me to continue practicing. Even if you have to play the same piece 10+ times she will continue to be patient and help you through every note. I highly recommend Mariko.

My 8 year old daugher has been taking lessons with Mariko about 6 months and we are very happy so far. Makiko is extremely friendly, very patient, works really well with children, and makes learning to play the violin fun.
