Introduction: My work is unique in that everything I do is science-backed. I have dedicated my career to healthy singing and the information that I give my students is solid, sound, and proven. All of the technical components I teach come from the old European school of singing that provided a great foundation for generations of singers in the past. It is my goal to bring that level of understanding and artistry to the next generation of singers, whether they are professional or just looking to understand the basics. My job is never boring! There is always a new way to express and idea or information to a client. Plus, every client is different, so tailoring lessons to fit each person is a challenge that I relish.

In just a few short months I can't believe how much I've learned from Jessica. My technique has improved; my tone in the upper part of my range has improved; how to keep my tongue from getting in the way / impeding the sound; so many aspects of singing. When I started my lessons I was particularly concerned that I might be doing something that was tiring my voice and causing it to lose volume. Jessica's knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper singing technique helped me through that concern and I know I am a "healthier" singer now. Knowledge and ability aside, her approach is also very patient and very encouraging. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in improving their technique, tone, range, artistic ability, etc.

I am wildly enthusiastic about the work Jessica Tivens is doing with my teenage daughter. Not only did Jessica help her prepare in just 6 sessions to audition for a prestigious vocal program (and my girl got in), she continues to offer topnotch individualized lessons. She knows everything--about the voice, taking care of the voice, Broadway musicals, who's who--everything! Not only this, she is utterly reliable, responsive and extremely personable. Jessica is vivacious, kind, positive and optimistic--and a stunningly talented singer, of course! She is humble enough that she doesn't take over the lesson with her own singing, but when we do get to hear her, we hear what mastery, excellence and, well, angels sound like.

I came to Jessica as a first time, very beginner voice student. I can't say enough good things about her methodology. She really deeply understands voice mechanics and is able to communicate them to her students very well. Above and beyond methodology, she's just fun to work with. A++. Would sing again. ; )

I sang with Jessica three years ago in a concert. I was very impressed with her technique. When I heard that she was going to open a studio, I immediately called her and started lessons with her. This has been one of my best decisions. She is not only a fantastic singer, but she is very knowledgeable about vocal pedagogy. What is gratifying to me is that she has the ability to explain exactly what you are doing incorrectly, but can also explain to you how to correct it and makes it easier for you to sing a "pop song or a Verdi aria". You feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment and not frustration in your lesson. She is funny, smart and talented!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have 2 different time blocks to choose from. I charge a flat rate for both. A student can decide to do a 45 minute session for $70 or a full hour for $80.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I assess each individual's needs and plan lessons accordingly. Everything is tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses, and is constantly adjusted to make sure they get the best information possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I still continue to work with my own voice teacher who taught me this technique. I also sit in on many other students' lessons and have attended pedagogy seminars as well.
