My initial job request was for a drippy faucet; this simple task turned into a more complicated issue as the faucet needed parts replaced, and it is a discontinued product. Jason took initiative to contact the company and determine how to get the necessary parts. He also discovered another defective part in the sprayer that had been leaking underneath the cabinet. Jason had to visit me three times to complete this task, but always communicated easily via text to keep me informed as to the status of the service. He was courteous, friendly, professional, very patient - I never felt like he was rushing, and he always wiped things down and cleaned up before he left. I chose him initially because he had such glowing, positive reviews, and now I know why. I would definitely hire him again for future services.

Marty had to install a new microwave for us. It entailed refitting a cabinet, making it half the original size, and installing the microwave there. The project was in good hands. Marty spoke with my husband, came up with a feasibile plan and then he executed perfectly. He cut the existing cabinet in half and also made the door to fit! Marty was very professional, Very respectful, has a careful eye for details and was not done until he was 100% satisfied.

If you need an IKEA hacker, G&M is for you!! Hired Greivin to retrofit IKEA cabinet systems for my quirky Manhattan apartment with uneven wall and floors. The project got complicated, with lots of troubleshooting required. The job was done as I expected. Greivin is professional, flexible and kind. Highly recommend him and would definitely hire him again. Thanks Greivin!!

After we bought our house, we decided we wanted our cabinets re-done. We made the mistake of having the person who painted the inside of our home, do our cabinets as well. Needless to say, the paint looked terrible, and we knew it wouldn't last long. I reached out to Sean on Thumbtack and he came over to look at the job and give us an estimate of his work. He was extremely reasonable and we decided to hire him. We were on a bit of a time crunch to move in, and Sean worked with us and was able to get our cabinet frames done right before we moved in! He took the doors home with him, worked on them and came back 2 weeks later and finished the project. He told us that since we had them painted, it was more work to get them to a point where he could get them to the quality we wanted. When he returned with doors and put everything together, the difference was amazing - his work was truly beautiful!!! The cabinets look like they were custom ordered for our kitchen. His work was so outstanding, that when he recommended we finish out the kitchen with some moldings and a new door for a cabinet that we had originally planned to leave open, we decided to go with his recommendation. He just came to finish up and the kitchen looks unbelievable!!! We are absolutely thrilled with his work and would hire him again in a heartbeat. Not only is his work extremely professional, but he is genuinely a great guy. We have recommended him to many people. Thank you Sean!

Tom's team did an outstanding job at painting very high contemporary ceiling rooms. Patched ceiling cracks and smoothed out ceiling issues from previous non-TNS work. He did creative carpentry work to fix problems with a hall corner wall, hole in bath wall and deck board that had rot. Fixed kitchen cabinet drawer that did not work. Great communication and execution. Hard workers, that were very accommodating of my schedule and my dogs. Great experience

I hired Rome to finish my kitchen for me as I'm redoing it myself. It took him a very short period of time to make everything on the walls look perfect! He also helped me choose the colors on the walls to compliment the granite and the kitchen cabinets. I cannot wait to see the final product. I was so impressed with his work, his attention to detail, he has a loyal customer for life and I'll be referring him to everyone I know. Great talent, affordable pricing and amazing work! He will be taking care of my entire house after this project is complete! Love his work!!!!!

I hired Gamboa painting to paint my kitchen cabinets, walls and ceiling. It wasn't until I had seen Gamboa's work that I was comfortable having my kitchen cabinets spray painted. Finding the right person to do the job is critical in cabinet painting because imperfections show easily and durability is very important. Gamboa's painting did an excellent job patching and preparing the walls and ceiling as well. They were neat, easy to communicate with and there was never any disagreement about the scope of the job or agreed upon price. It was a pleasure dealing with Carlos and his crew and I highly recommend his company.

I needed Glenn to replace my kitchen cabinets. Out of the quotes I received, his was most affordable and the pictures of his previous work looked the best. I really wanted someone who was able to work on it in the evening after I got off work and Glenn was happy accommodate me, working until 11pm for a few days. He took his time to carefully explain what work he would be doing. I even mentioned some door that someone else told me needed to be replaced. Glenn was very honest and explained that he could simply re-hinge the door and that a door replacement was an unnecessary expense. I will definitely keep his contact information handy for any other repair needs I have.

Wow! Susan and her assistant were absolutely amazing. My household goods and furniture arrived this week from Washington DC and they unpacked everything for me. I was extremely ill (going through a severe lupus flare) and they simply proceeded ahead to organize and put away everything I own -- from putting down shelf liner in my cabinets to hanging clothes in my closet to putting my bed together all in a meticulous and coordinated manner. My condo looks like a showroom. If you have a chance to hire Susan you will never ever regret it. In fact, you would regret it if you don't!

Vick at Servi-All was an absolute pleasure to work with and we are thrilled with the results of all his hard work! We initially hired him just for some cabinet painting, but our project evolved, and we made some mid-way decisions, discoveries, and changes, but Vick took on everything in stride and was patient and professional. Vick is responsive to texts and was easy to get ahold of when needed. Above all else, the quality of all his work, and especially his cabinet painting (completely removed door fronts, applied several even spray coats to both sides, painted everything else in place) was top notch! We also had him install plank flooring, paint the walls and ceilings, apply a tile backsplash, tile the entryway floor, and handle some other odds and ends. We couldn't be happier with the results and would definitely recommend Servi-All to others seeking similar.

Without Arek and Renaissance Creations, my new Ikea kitchen would have never happened! My husband and I recently purchased a very old home that needs a lot of work, and the kitchen was one of our first projects. We wanted to make good use of our small space, but needed to be budget conscience so we selected Ikea cabinets. Still, Ikea cabinets are stock and to get the most mileage of our space, we were going to need to make some adjustments to several of the cabinets including cutting down the sizes of a few. We paid extra for the Ikea Kitchen Measuring & Planning service and thought we had it all figured out. We expected that our installer would just need to show up and install. BOY, were we wrong!! It turns out that Ikea completely botched our shipment, they sent the wrong drawer sizes for our cabinets, sent drawers without cabinets, forgot to deliver our sink base...the list of things that went wrong with Ikea goes on and on. Through it all, Arek was kind and patient and even went beyond the call of duty and packed up all of the returns on his truck, drove me out to Ikea, and spent nearly 3 hours there with me while we sorted it all out-- this on a snowy Saturday when he could've just gone home. Now the kitchen looks great! None of this would have been possible without Arek and his company. I highly recommend them!

I didn't hire Roman to finish my cabinets (yet) but he did do a considerable amount of interior repair work -- woodwork, painting etc. --and his work was exemplary. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Roman, who is also a very pleasant person to deal with.

Kiko was amazing. He assembled 24 cabinets perfectly in a single day. He very graciously accepted several date changes due to construction delays. He arrived early, was extremely pleasant and worked quickly and quietly to get the job done. We cannot recommend him more highly. A job that would have taken my husband and I two weeks of after work evenings (&too many arguments!) to complete was done in a day. Phenomenal. Worth EVERY penny. Hire him!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
