Ultimately, I decided to hire Marty after receiving quotes from other contractors to install a new hood vent that would also required some duct work as well. The main reason why we decided to go with him is because he took the time during the estimation process and tried to look for other solutions whereas another contractor that came said it should only be done one way. In addition to that, Marty always answered my questions in a very timely fashion which is always a big plus for me and even though there was a little additional damage to my roof while he was installing my hood vent, he didn't change the original price from what he quoted which shows a great deal in my book. We have plans to do more with this kitchen and Marty is going to be our GoTo guy going forward. He did a great job, and although it took a little while, it was done right and thats more than i can ask for. Highly recommend him.

Herson and his crew did a great job with both the roofing and siding projects. While there are always unexpected things pop up in construction projects, they handled them as best as they could. Despite the 3-4 storms which hindered the work, they did their best to stay close to the schedules.

I had Afonso come over gave me a good quote on the roof. Within few days him and his guys started to put down new roof the roof was leaking bad due to previous roof had Damaged most of sheed rock and my sky lights. Ever since since new roof havent had any leaks so far in contract we had to repair the skylights with flashing but they requested new skylights I went and bought new skylights due to extensive damage they put the skylights down at no cost due to contract and had all replaced gutters and put new copper on chimney which where on contract. Over all they did good job only suggestion I have is make sure for future they run the magnet for nails I had to plug my car tire three times due to screws and nails. Other than that roof hasn't had any leaks yet.

A small leakage in the roof. Felix came and fixed it within 20mins, and charged us almost nothing! Although we don't have heavy rain to test it yet, believe he did a good job.

Asar roofing restoration has done an amazing job on my roof, before they had came to help. I had several other roofing companies come, none able to fix my leaking problem properly. After Asar stopped by and did my roof, I had no leaking problems afterwards. They are fast and and Efficient, though it takes awhile. Which is understandable, they get the job done.

Tom has done many jobs at our home in Carmel, NY, installed a two layer deck , installed 4 sliding galss doors which opened out to the new deck, riped up old style slate floors in the kitchen and installed new ones, repaired the ceiling in our living room(house was built in 55 so its this ole house,LOL) and has always done a fime job. After all this work which was done since we moved in July of 2013 plus when we moved that day he also installed a wood fence around a large part of the back yard which he started the day we moved and finished within 2 days(210' of fence) so our 4 dogs would have a play/poop area. He works with you and comes up with some very good idea's on the jobs as well and his prices are fair, I would recomend Tom for any home remodeling /improvements. He will be doing our master bath floor soon as well.

It was a pleasure working with Bill. I was in a bit of a rush for a new roof and he was there immediately to give an estimate. He gave me a detailed description of everything that needed to be done including necessary repairs. His crew worked quickly and efficiently and finished the job in one day and only a few days after contracting the job. I am extremely satisfied and would highly recommend Lyndsey Roofing.

Wanted to share some positive feeback for a job well done by Frank & his team at Tri-County. We started our work with a simple Chimney cleaning one year ago and have since had lots of other services completed by Tri-County including our patio and sidewalk, the walk ways around our pool and some roofing work as well. Tri-County has been our go to "one stop shop" for several services and we have been extremely happy with the work and more importantly the customer service. We highly recommend Tri-County for all of their services.

Nothing could have been better with the complete replacement of my roof, all the previous layers. Dalia Home Improvement finished the work in a few days, and their clean-up of the site was well accomplished even though the work was done in February during cold weather. The workers were polite and mannerly, and gave every consideration to me, the homeowner. My roof is not an easy one to repair. It has a steep slope and a cone-shaped section. Nonetheless the workers of Dalia Home Improvement managed a splendid job. The bonus is that the work was done for a cost that was lower than that of other bidders.

Steve and Maine Touch Roofing was great. They responded to my posting quickly, communicated well, and took care of my roof repair the next day at a reasonable price. They also did some additional exterior work for me and worked into the darkness with some spot lights in order to get it done right away. I was very happy with Steve and his crew, and would definitely hire them again in the future. I highly recommend them.

Working with Mark from A-Z was a pleasure. He was recommended by two friends and the estimating process went seamless. After establishing the price, the scheduling went on time. The crew was courteous and clean. There was a minor call back, which Mark responded to immediately. that to me is a real professional. It is easy when all goes well but how is it handled when there is a problem. Problem solved quickly and correctly. A-Z is highly recommended, quick, competitive and competent.

the overhang of the roof over our front porch was leaking and Scott came over when he said he would and fixed it on the spot. He was extremely pleasant and we would not hesitate to use him for any of other projects we should need to do. Thanks for recommending him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
