Sebastian was very prompt and professional. He was asked to silicone toilets and a backsplash. I thought that the backsplash turned out well. His workmanship on the toilets however was quite crude - not at all what I had expected or seen of other jobs and hard to fix once that silicone was laid down (see photo). I also had to supply painter's tape - not something which was communicated beforehand and something that I hasten to think buyers should need to know else they can expect worse results. I have contacted The Service Guys in the hopes of having at least one toilet re-siliconed (where I have already cut away some of the excess silicone that missed the gap, making it an easy touch up). I will update if that happens.

Great job and great service. We had a tile that was put directly on top of the hard wood flooring and they were able to remove the tile and refinish the hard wood to look like new again!

VERY RESPONSIVE AND GOT JOB DONE IMMEDIETELY WHEN WE HAD A CRISIS! We had a tree fall due to storm and it was pressing against the house. Posted job late in day and he called me immediately, went by the job next morning, gave me a fair price and was working and job completed by next day. We deal with hundreds of contractors a year and I wish more had this type of communication and follow through. A+ from us - VinMak Asset Management Group

My Dad worked with this company directly to trim a drying and falling tree. My Dad was more than pleased with the knowledge, service, politeness and professionalism. He was happy that they settled on a price within my dad's budget, cut the tree exactly what was needed off, while still leaving the tree a natural shape for shade, the bad branches were removed, and also cut some other branches into logs for a fireplace- way more bang for his buck compared to the other companies he met with. Definitely would recommend.

Jorge and his team did a fantastic job. Very responsive when making an appointment for the estimate and punctual on the day they came to cut down the tree. The tree was close to the house and inside a fenced area. Brought the tree down, cut up into pieces and hauled away all within a few hours. Lawn looks great too - never would know a tree was just cut. I highly recommend Rivera's Tree Service - Thanks Jorge!

We have lots of tree filled property. We needed a heavy leaf cleanup and were not able to find a team that thought they could do the job. Then we found Chavez through Thumbtack. These folks came on time, offered a fair estimate and did a remarkable job, quickly and professionally. We like what the team did so much that we're hiring them for two more landscape, not just cleanup, projects. High recommended for value, professionalism and honesty.

I have been using Elmer to do my landscaping since the Spring, and I can not say enough positive comments about him. He is a PERFECTIONIST, the lawn is always mowed perfectly, landscaping is taken care of, and now in the Fall, I do not even have to worry about the leaves. Elmer also helped me to get rid of dead trees on my property, and I smile every time I look out on to my property because of the wonderful job he did. I also had Elmer help me put up my Halloween lights on my house, and he did a TERRIFIC JOB, it looks as if a professional light company did the work. I would reccomend Elmer to everyone, you will not be disappointed!!! Thumbs up Elmer!! Keep up the great work!!!!

It took several weeks to actually find a time to get the work done but once he got to it, Alex did a good job. My tree looks very nicely pruned, he took his time to make sure that it looked right. He also did a good job in cleaning up after the work. I may have over paid as it was a small job, but I was having trouble getting anyone else to come do the work so I am glad to just get it done.

They might not do it like you like the first time around, but they are responsive to your suggestions and comment and they would try to do it the way you wanted. They don’t bring their official receipt with them when they come out your home to do the work and getting paid. I had the boss Jose to write me a receipt by hand because he didn’t have an official receipt with him. They even cleaned off the roof for me because some debris from tree trimming flow on there and I told them to clean off the debris and they did. I don’t have any grievance nor complain about their good performance. Remember to give them a lot of suggestions.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
