FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I answered this in another area: "Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?"...Also, in another are, I talked about going back to school for my N.P. I AM beginning this in the fall through Colorado Christian University(online obviously) then will finish up at Upstate's BSN/NP program...this is my plan..
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My grandmother, who basically raised me, was among the first visiting nurses ever in Utica, NY. She was always a fantastic nurse even though she didn't work in the field after getting married to her attorney husband at the the age of 25. As a child, I sustained a traumatic epilepsy and she would come and care for me,after a grand mal seizure, with so much love and professionalism. She took care of me when I had the measles, broke my foot in her driveway, and various other illnesses. I witnessed her care for other people who were very ill, including my great grandmother whose diabetes was so advanced that she needed her foot amputated. One day, when I was 21 and my brother had been killed, I was studying linquistics at Cornell, but returned to Utica due to his sudden death. She sat me down and said "I know you want to be an interpreter, but you are married to a bum, and I will pay for your books and help with the cost of your classes..become a nurse and no matter what happens or where you go, you will always have a good, secure job." I took her advice and am eternally grateful that I did!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common jobs I do for my clients extremely different as they are completely individualized and based upon the needs of the particular student. Recently I had a prospective student ask me to send her a curriculum/syllabus. I was not able to do that because I would have to see what her skill set was and then go from there. For example, many of my students come to me feeling as though they are not intelligent, when in fact, they ARE very bright but have severe test anxiety. We will then plunge into board - style questions/tests and decide where there are strengths and discern the weaknesses and then we continue to work the areas that are weak. Several situations present weaknesses with acid/base, pharmacology, maternity, pediatrics and/or endocrine and psychiatric nursing. The point is I have a 100% success rate with my students.
