I want to start by saying that I hired Joanne to get a family portrait for Christmas cards. She was nice, did a great job with my step son, and I got a perfect shot for my Christmas cards. So thank you. In the beginning when I was quoted a price I was told "I may be more expensive than other Thumbtack photographers,. but I'm worth it! ;) I am a full-time pro, not a part-time dabbler trying to make money from a hobby." So I hired Joanne. We had a 60minute shoot and all went well despite the cold and windy day. When I went to view the pictures at her studio I was only shown 12 images (12 different poses 1 each) from that 60 minute shoot. I went back to look at all of our correspondence and nowhere was it mentioned I would only be viewing 12 photos. I had solo shots of my stepson done and I was only showed 1 of them. Yes I know there were probably a lot with him with a big cheesy grin but those are memories that I don't have. I could have asked about the others that were taken but I was really taken back when my slide show ended so quickly. Also during our correspondence, I was told it would be cheaper for me to order my cards elsewhere and that she would gift me digital files for this purpose. However I'm pretty sure that I had to pay for the image I wanted to use for my cards. I questioned what I ordered the next day and there was no mention of my paying for it. But after I mentioned my "complimentary image" she responded with digital files of the 6 images I ordered, including the one I paid for ($25 printable to 4x6). It was my understanding that the digital file for my Christmas card was included. Had I known I was going to be charged, my order would have been entirely different. We briefly went over Joanne doing my Christmas cards as well. I was shown a website and as she quickly clicked threw the choices I was asked to make a decision. This is not something that I can make in a split second. It may only be a Christmas card but I want to take my time and make a choice. In addition all of my images were supposed to be edited. I do not have a trained eye for these things but there are a few imperfections in the images that a photographer should have noticed and taken out. Again, yes I could have said something and probably gotten them retouched but to be truthful I wasn't about to be charged additional fees, if there were any, to have this done. It's taken me a long time to come back and write my review. And as you can see it is not 5 stars even though my needs were met. I was asked that if my review was less than 5 stars to talk to Joanne instead of leaving a review. This is unfair to anyone who is looking to hire someone for pictures as I saw all 5 star reviews and picked her based off of that and that she was "worth" the extra money. I do want to thank Joanne for her time as I was able to get what I needed. The 12 images I was able to choose from came out great and Im happy for that, I just wish that I was able to look at more from that day and narrow them down myself. I now know what to ask for in any future photographer I hire. I would love to try thumbtack again. However I will not be using Joanne again. But I thank you and I wish you all the best.Dec 15, 2015Verified
Needing a corporate portrait, I reached out to Thumbtack to hire a professional photographer. Being somewhat camera shy, I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I received about 5 quotes and spent time going through their reviews. I was quite impressed with how many great reviews JoAnne received. Upon going over her work, I decided to give her a call. I shared with her about my shyness and that I was my worst critic and probably not going to be that easy to work with. She assured me, I wasn't alone and that it would be no problem. Just talking to her on the phone was calming and reassuring to someone as "camera shy" as me. Well, from the moment we met and all through the photo shoot, I felt at ease. She spent time getting to know me and I felt very comfortable throughout the shoot. It was rather fun! I feel that I overcame a fear of sorts...a great feeling in itself! I unequivocally recommend JoAnne Besides all of the above, the images are AMAZING!! The color, the clarity and the poses, all put together made for one beautiful corporate portrait. Thank you so much JoAnne, I will be recommending you to all my friends and family needing a professional, highly qualified photographer. Thank you for that, Karen! It means so much to me both professionally, and personally. I truly loved creating these images for you. :) I absolutely love when people give portraits as gifts! It is such a beautiful thing to do, which stirs my heart. I know both grandmas will cherish these images! Such a thoughtful gift from your heart to their's. Four teens and a 4 yr old, and everyone cooperated beautifully and did everything I asked of them! The session couldn't have gone more smoothly. Every bit of it was done with loving intentions, and the grandmas are going to love having these images on their walls! Thank you for choosing me, among all the others out there. Truly, it was an honour to be part of this! ~ Warmly, Jo Anne
