I had a really bad back up in by basement bathroom and of course began panicking. Jason contacted me and was at my house just a few hours later and got to work right away. From the second I met him outside, I felt like everything would be ok. From his calm demeanor, and knowledgeable questions I knew I was in the right hands. Jason worked for HOURS trying to unclog the persistent and stubborn clog but was only able to clear it up slightly all due to an idiot contractor I hired in the past. After more hours of working his butt off he kindly suggested I call a sewer specialist as this was too much for a plumber. I asked him how much I owed him and although I don't recall if he said "nothing" or half of the quoted, I gave him the full amount of his original quote because I KNOW he did his best. I will not be calling ANYONE else for future plumbing projects in my house

Kathy was responsive to my call and scheduled a visit by the plumber (Sam) the next day (Saturday). Sam arrived on time and within few minutes identified the sources to the leaks from the bathtub drain area. Both the drain valve and the faucet valve were leaking. Sam fixed the drain valve on that day and came back two days later on Monday with the parts needed to replace the leaky faucet valve as well as a new faucet set that I wanted him to install. There were two options to replace the faucet valve - one from the front (bathtub) side which requires removing a few tiles, or from behind, which requires cutting a small area on the drywall in the adjacent room. Although it would have been easier for him to work from the front side, he decided to work from behind so that I don't have to hire another contractor to install the tiles later. I truly appreciated his thoughtfulness. He also suggested that I install access panels where the cut was made on the wall as well as on the ceiling at the first floor, below the bathtub drain valve. Sam did an excellent job and he was on time as promised. The price was very reasonable. Sam is honest and trustworthy. I will certainly hire him whenever I need work that Sam does.

I hired Skilled Service, Repair & Installation a few weeks ago, right before the New Year, and it was a very pleasant experience, from the introductory email, to the phone/text conversations, to the finalization of the job. One thing I really like about Joseph is, that he is really does seem like an honest business man. He must've mentioned to me two or three times not to ever feel shy about asking any questions at all and voicing my own opinion. As a homeowner, and not a professional in the construction business, it is very intimidating at times hiring contractors and letting them and their sub-contractors in the home while having to perform family-hood duties. I mean the household chores, the kids and their homework and their chores, etc, etc. I run a very busy household, Joseph's head had to be spinning, trying to stay focused on the work, hearing the noise and comotion. Who knows what he must've thought of my homelife, LOL, but like I said above, him and his helper were very pleasant and professional. They both have children themselves, and they both said it was nothing new to them. Even when Joseph came by for the estimate, my son and daughter would not leave my side, not even five minutes into estimate he had my kids giggling and smiling, I thought that was very sweet of him. So between the paint job and the electrical installation for the master bedroom and kids' room, the rooms came out absolutely wonderful. The accent walls in each room bounce the rest of the room right out at you. The lighting was beautifly done and there are more outlets and they are so easy to get to now, yay!!

Central air conditioner on the roof was not working. They showed up the same day as promised. Fixed the problem and the price was reasonable, particularly when considering how HVAC contractors can be huge rip-offs

My experience with Ben was outstanding. I had numerous contractors/servicemen come look at my central a/c unit which was not working. Ben was the only who figured it out. I am extremely grateful to have air conditioning again! He was gracious with his time and charged me what I think is a very reasonable fee given the two trips he made and the amount of time he worked on the issue. He is my new go-to guy for all my a/c needs! On top of it, he is a super nice guy.

My gas fired boiler failed to fire up late in the afternoon on the Friday. Tim called me within about 15 minutes of my placing a call to the HVAC Service4You switchboard at about 5:30PM. He said that he was about to leave a job in Roslyn and should be in Long Beach in about an hour. He arrived right on time and very quickly diagnosed the problem with my gas fired boiler. Although it needs a new motor as a permanent fix, Tim was able to get the system going so that it could operate for a few days until the part is ordered the next business day. He was extremely knowledgeable about my system even though he had not seen it prior to his visit, he was extremely courteous and I would say that he could be the best and most efficient and effective technician that I have ever had in my home to fix a problem. You will not be sorry to have him in your home or business when you have an HVAC issue.

After going through three other HVAC companies over the course of many weeks, Alex was the only one who was quickly able to diagnose the problem, order the right parts, and finally resolve my heating and air conditioning issues. Will definitely hire again. Thanks so much Alex!

Mandell was great at fitting a new gas line in our house. They came on time and the contractor was so helpful and even went around the house and answered a few questions we had about various issues we were having with our new house. Being first time home owners, we don’t know how a lot of things work in the house and he helped us with some recommendations for fixes. Thank you Mandell!

We hired Doug and his crew to set up central air on the ground floor of our house (we already had existing ducts for our heating system) and mini split ductless AC units in the bedrooms on the second floor. From start to finish Doug was punctual, clear, answered any questions I had (very responsive over the phone for last minute questions), and at the start and end of each phase of the project he always met with us to go over what would be done and to check in to make sure we were satisfied with the work after it was done or answer questions. The work was completed quickly. Unlike other contractors, there was no lull in the work. His crew worked diligently to get the work done in a timely fashion. Now that the weather has been warm enough to use the AC, we couldn't be happier. The central air cools the house quickly amd queitly amd the ductless mini splits he installed by LG are attractvie and do an excellent job cooling our large bedrooms. Whats more, we always get compliments on how nice they look. I highly recommend this company.

We were dubious of a high estimate we got from our HVAC contractor during a routine spring tuneup. The system is 3 years old and they were suggesting all this maintenance. I was suspect and decided to keep them honest by having someone check their work. I contacted Greg and he let us know that the work they suggested was not necessary. He did clean the coils on both outdoor units for a lot less than “they” quoted. Greg was courteous & honest and we wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone needing any service on their HVAC system. So nice to work with honest people, Thanks Greg!!!

I had a unique HVAC problem in a condo unit I rent out. I contacted 7 different HVAC contractors. Three said the project was too complicated for them. Three gave me outrageously expensive estimates (over $10k). Adam from License to Chill gave me a very reasonable price and asked me when I would like him to begin the job. The project was on time and on budget. I highly recommend Adam, and he will be doing any future HVAC work needed in my own home and in my rental.

I got Mike's contact through thumbtack in regards to my hotwater/heating boiler for my apartment. He gave me a great price, as well as told me that if he cannot fix it he will not charge me anything after evaluating what could be wrong with my boiler. Mike is Professional, knows a lot about the trade and most importantly takes pride in his work. It was a pleasure having him fix the problem I had. He fixed the original issue, as well as my thermostat which was not originally listed by me in my search for a contractor. By seeing him work and fix the issue, I already told him that if I have any problems with the boiler in the future I would call him, as well as I would be using him for yearly maintenance on the boiler. If any of my friends or family would be in need of HVAC/heating/electrical contractor I would recommend Mike. I highly recommend Mike to anyone looking for a professional HVAC/Heating/Electrical contractor.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

    • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
    • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
    • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
    • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
      • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
    • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
      • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
    • Your home has humidity problems.
    • Your home has excessive dust.
      • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
    • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
      • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
    • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
      • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
