- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
When it comes to pricing, I use the analogy of anyone who has a job. If you've been at a job for several years (for example) and you're good at it and have been rewarded for a good job, you expect to be compensated accordingly based on your experience and success. Especially compared to those who might be new to the job and/or work part-time. Pricing for a DJ, for example, is no different. I am a well-experienced & professional DJ+MC that also runs a business (I'm registered with the station) AND possess liability and equipment insurance. I also pay taxes. All of those factors are factored into my pricing. So, you need to make sure you compare a well-experienced professional to other professionals; NOT compare them to a DJ who does it for "a few extra bucks" or is a new to someone like me. We call them "amateurs" or "weekend warriors." Because you're comparing apples to oil filters is many important factors -- which include much more than price. "You get what you pay for" definitely applies to a vendor like a DJ.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
This entire industry IS my career. It always has been. My overall experience in this industry -- which includes working in radio (both on-air and in programming) -- gives me a unique experience that almost-all of the DJs around do not possess.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've been DJing since I've been a kid. I've always wanted to do this.
