Mike did an excellent job painting my home in Kent. I was impressed with how fast he painted and cut in the edges free hand without having to apply tape. He did not drip any paint on my hardwood floors or my furniture. I would hire Mike again and will recommend him to my friends.

John always does a top quality job. He has done house inspections for my real estate customers and is very thorough with his inspection and delivers a email report with excellent pictures of the items inspected. He also is a precision painter. He can paint without taping and still not mess up the lines. He also does electrical work, plumbing, etc. All is done with great expertise. His work and knowledge of the workings of houses is top shelf.

I hired Cipriano Painting to paint my living room, dining room and hall going up stairs. We had just purchased the house, that had not been painted in about 20 years! They did a great job; arrived as agreed, cleaned up each day and finished as planned. I will use them again! They are all nice guys and Andy even walked my dog! Thanks again Mike, great job! We did hire Paul Decker to do some work at our house in Painesville Ohio. These jobs included replacing all the screens in the gazebo painting and also refinishing our deck. Mr. Decker was prompt and completed the job within a few days. Everything was neat and clean up was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about how to accomplish the job and Helped us choose the proper screens for the gazebo. It looks much better without all of the old holes and wear signs. We also wanted a gate custom built for our deck. He manufactured this and painted it to match the rest of the railing around the deck and it works perfectly. The price was fair and I would highly recommend handyman services.

We had the entire interior of our house painted. We have several very large rooms and 16+ foot ceilings in at least 3 of those rooms. Eric and his team worked with us as we moved up our expected painting time frame by 3 to 4 months. The work was competitively priced and completed very efficiently. Eric personally was in the house to work on the job and touched base with us frequently to make sure we were happy with the quality of work and overall outcome. He asked if there was anything we noticed that didn't look right. We are extremely happy with Eric and his team's work and services. We look forward to bringing him back in for future projects.

He moved my furniture, covered everything and put it back when he was finished. I finally found a professional painter for my future projects. I will recommend Ted to my Friends.

it's a difficult job with a camped space, but he did relatively well, and the charge for the whole job is reasonable. there's a few spots missed on paint over though, but it doesn't matter much as an utility room.

Very neat work. He took good care of my furniture and carpet being careful not to get paint on them. It's been a few years since he has painted and the job was so professionally done it still looks good. I would definitely hire him again.

Very pleased with Make a Deal Painting. I built my home 12 years ago and their work was excellent beyond anything I could have imagined. They are professional, experienced, and when asked for an opinion it was better than the color schemes used by the original builder.I admit to being "old school at age 65" but this company did not fail in any area, job preparation, skill and respect within my home was exceptional. The responsiveness to detail was unquestioned, prior to leaving the crew took it upon themselves to sand and refinish a door not included and at no additional cost because, "it would be noticeable that the door was not included" and I was just awestruck...I pride myself on being able to pick out half ass from real craftsman..these guys are truly great and I urge their bidding your work.....

Finish what he started and do not STEAL. Guy stole my pressure washer and even used my gas for it! Tore down and threw away my window treatments. Spray painted my fireplace tiles black, broke 3 rungs from my front porch fence. Won't come back to paint the front door...

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
