I am very impressed with the finished product. I have never hired a resume writer before, so I was very skeptical on how to choose one that would be able to make sense of my previous positions and present them in a more polished way. When I decided to take the risk on Daniel, communication was excellent from the start. Before the initial face-to-face, a phone assessment took place. Meetings were productive, he would always present new additions and suggestions to my resume and he would always explain his reasoning behind the changes. Most importantly, he was clear and upfront with the way he conducts business which was a comfort. I am very pleased with the overall experience.

I worked with Kim in a prior position for approximately 12 years in my roles of Sr. Project Manager and Director of IT, during which she was of great assistance in many of our IT projects. Our implementations and projects always required a communications plan for change management. Kim executed those plans flawlessly, but her value added was: 1) understanding the end-users audience and how to best communicate technology to them, 2) writing communications pieces that were concise and easy-to-understand, and 3) often bringing insights to our discussions that would uncover new aspects of the implementation (how to use new features, how to address the removal of old features, etc.). In short, her contributions enhanced the quality of each system implementation or upgrade project. In addition, Kim was my go-to expert whenever I needed to write specific communications, from memos to PowerPoint presentations, as she always provided the audience perspective that I needed.

I'm a copy-editor, and I always turn to Sarah to proofread books I've worked on. I'm also a writer and have her proofread books I've written. I've worked with other proofreaders in the past, and she's simply the best.

As a business owner, it is imperative to have a website that is not only user-friendly but lead generating. The best decision I made, as the Managing Broker of ConBro Buyers Brokerage to ensure this success; was hiring Sequoia Brown from Funnel Amp to create our firm’s website: www.conbrobrokerage.com. Ms. Brown is an intelligent, skillful and highly-motivated exceptional performer; whose customer service exceeded our company’s expectations. Within 1 month of implementing Ms. Brown’s re-branding strategies; our traffic and sales-closing rates increased by 10%. Not only did her design skillfully convey our corporate identity, white-glove customer service, our website was very well received by clients and colleagues. She is truly dedicated to her clients and makes herself readily available to not only answer questions, but she also provides solutions to your technical problems in record time without hesitation or complaint as she works endlessly to meet the client’s objectives. This type of responsiveness is rare to come by and should be rewarded. Funnel Amp and Sequoia Brown come highly recommended to any individual or company that seeks high quality design work that makes a visual impact to one’s customer; resulting in substantial customer retention and increase in profits. Sincerely, -Ms. Connie. B, Broker,MBA

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
