I wasn't home when he came over to determine where the leak was coming from. My wife told me that he explored all the different possibilities. He looked through an air vent to look at the pipes. This was not the problem. He then called his associate, who is a master plumber. The master plumber recommended removing the toilet to see what was going on underneath. Sure enough there were some worn out parts that caused the leakage. Mike was surprised at how poorly the toilet had been installed. He put in a new O-ring and some other parts. He made sure the toilet was properly re-installed and less prone to leak. Mike is multi-talented and really cares about his customers. We will use Mike in the future for both our plumbing needs and other repair jobs.

He is installing a bathroom in our basement and he has been great. He came out right away to look at the project and started work right away. He even started the project on a Sunday and worked hard all day, completely above and beyond my expectations. I will definitely call him for any and all plumbing projects or problems in the future as well. He has been extremely polite and professional and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a plumber.

I recently had a new driveway, sidewalk and 10' x 20' pad behind my garage installed by Safe Guard Renovations. Dave Rogers, the owner of the company is a young ambitious professional. I was skeptical at first because he had only been in business for five years but there is no doubt that he had been exposed to this trade for many years prior. Dave employ's true tradesman, his main concern was to make me happy as the customer. The tear out, install and finish was done in three days. I couldn't be happier. I had some concerns and questions after the job was done and paid for, so I texted Dave and within five minutes he called me back. All is good. I would like to make mention of some of his guys as I said he has some extremely skilled tradesmen working for him. Mike, who was the senior of them all would spend time with me while I was micromanaging the project (getting in their way) and reassure me that the guys that were on the job know exactly what they're doing. Shane, is there master plumber who will repair, relocate and tie in all your drains and who also has an extensive back ground in the cement trades. Som, this man is a bull and will take charge of the cement pour and finishing, complete professional. There are many others but just can’t remember their names. Bottom line, I would recommend Safe Guard Renovations for your cement needs.

Daniel, from the plumber is a true professional. I had a leak in my ceiling from my shower. Other plumbers were either giving outrageous quotes over the phone, or really high diagnostic fees just to look at it. Daniel came and gave a free diagnostics, and and a very fair price to do the the job. Very clean, very professional. Will recommend him to friends and family!

Another (Thumbtack) plumber sent out one of his employees, then called me and told me the leak behind the tub couldn't be fixed, the tub and all plumbing needed to be ripped out and replaced at >$3,000 for labor only. I called Nate for second opinion. Nate showed up with his partner the same day and fixed the problem on the spot for well under $100. He was also a pleasure to deal with. He will be my first call for now on.

My experience with Remarkable Plumbing was fantastic. I had a drain pipe that needed replaced. I had two other plumbers out to look at it, and was told by both that my access panel wasn't large enough to completely the job (the house is on a slab). Kevin was able to find a work around (add to that, he's a magician with a sawzall) that didn't require more of the slab to be dug up that saved me quite a few hundred dollars. 6 months later, I still haven't had any problems with the fix. I've referred Remarkable to others and will continue to do so.

Ted showed up on time to help me with my stinky well water issue. The first solution didn't work. He suggested another solution (which I checked up on with other plumbers) and his solution was the least expensive. He replaced my water heater and whole house filter and added a second filter per my request. He didn't try to push any unneccesary work and he did the job quickly. My house now has water that smells like water :-)

Plumber arrived on time, was very professional, punctual and honest. He told me exactly what the drain unclogging process would entail, and did not try to up-sell me on additional services at all. While the company may not be the cheapest around for this type of project, their price was still fair, and still much less than what Roto-Rooter or The Plumbing Source would charge. He got the job done quickly, and solved the problem without running into any issues or damaging any pipes at all. Would definitely hire again for future plumbing projects.

Dave was terrific! He was very honest and had the heart of a teacher when trying to diagnose our problem related to leaking around the shower. He counseled us about the various options and was very fair and reasonable. He definitely stood out from all the prior plumbers I've worked with. We will definitely call him back!

LAWRENCE construction & Remodeling is the best!  2 years ago I used this company to remodel my 1927 home.  James Lawrence, and his team of professionals did a phenomenal job on doing a complete remodel of the house including new/refinishing hard wood floors, new electrical, new plumbing, bedrooms, bath, load bearing wall removal and a custom made kitchen. This work included obtaining city permits and regular inspections - this was all handled by LAWRENCE Construction & Remodeling. They were extremely professional and efficient and the project was finished on time and on budget.   Fast forward to the present.  When I had some plumbing issues, LAWRENCE Construction & Remodeling responded promptly and were extremely helpful. They back up their work and their customer service is exceptionally excellent.  They sent out a certified plumber and electrician within days of my request and fixed the issue immediately. The quality of their work and their customer service is first rate!  I will definitely be using them again for any remodeling jobs in the future.   I highly recommend this company and will be making referrals to friends, family, and co-workers.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
