Michael Boc did an amazing job turning my gutted house into an attractive, livable space. Everything in the house needed repairs, and he was more than capable of the renovations, including new drywall, wall insulation, flooring, outdoor siding, and a beautiful bathroom remodel. He's not only very skilled, but has a great eye and pays attention to detail. Michael really went above and beyond on the many projects involved in fixing this house. He was always kind and lovely to work with - I'll be calling him again, and would absolutely recommend him to anyone.

Barnes Sklare Remodeling & Home Improvements LLC are hands down the best contractors in the area. I immediately felt comfortable with Chuck when he met my mother and I at her home. I explained to him that as a gift to her I am remodeling her kitchen.(this was not a little task) I needed a trustworthy and reliable contractor since I live in AZ and would be stay connected with them through video messages and phone calls. Chuck and his partner, Chris were awesome. They we're very open to continuous communication and understood that a group messages and group phone calls with my mother and I were the best way to keep us aware and involved during the entire reno. We remodeled a kitchen and full bathroom. The kitchen/living/dining was opened into one open concept living. We removed a load bearing wall, and a chimney. 2 walls in total. We replaced subfloors, removed old tile floors, backsplash, tile walls and plenty more. Then we ordered all new cabinets, counters, and floors. We even had Chuck join in a video call at a local home improvement location and verify measurements with our cabinet representative. We worked with Chuck and Chris the entire time letting them know the items we were selecting for install in. Both my mother and I really appreciated their input on products(the good and the bad). We choose maple cabinets, quartz countertops and LVT flooring. We also selected the same finishes for the bathroom the we remodeled at the same time. Barnes Sklare Remodeling & Home Improvements LLC will provide you a quote and work diligently to stick to it. They are trustworthy and kind to each member of your family.(including the dog) I would highly recommend and encourage you to reach out to them for an estimate on your next home improvement reno. You won't be disappointed by their work.

The D3 Services team was excellent! We hired them to remove wallpaper and paint. We had wallpaper and dark wood trim/doors all throughout the house (check out the photos!). The D3 Services team removed all the wallpaper, fixed/prepared the walls, panted all the trim and doors and painted every wall in the house. They were professional, efficient and reasonably priced. The quality of their work was great and when our movers damaged all the newly painted walls, the D3 Services team came back to fix it all the next day! I highly recommend D3 Services and will use them again for my future painting needs!

Rod was chosen from five bidders, all of whom were close in their estimates. Unlike the others, he initially mentioned renovation options ( both interior and exterior ) that had not been considered in the planning. No one else "thought outside the box". This was a complete renovation of a house to prepare it for sale: new flooring throughout, new padding and carpeting throughout, much repair work of damaged wood and walls, a wood-burning fireplace rehab; installation of new vanities, sinks, mirrors, med. cabinets and accessories, 5 new ceiling fans, power washing, painting shutters and repair and painting of storage shed, caulking around foundation, installation of all new interior and exterior doors. You can see that the job was all-encompassing and Rod was up to the task and did some unique repairs along the way. The only two detours included four dead electrical outlets that still need to be repaired by an electrician and the time frame ran more than 3 and 1/2 months. If you are willing to be patient, Rod will do a bang-up job for you. He would text pictures of items for my approval before he would make a purchase. He provided me with a receipt for everything that was required for the job. This was an $11,000+ investment, but the new owner is not going to have any headaches once they move in. I hope to hire Rod again for work at my own residence and would comfortably make a referral to anyone in need of his services.

We had James remove wallpaper on our bathroom (no easy feat, trust me!), patch the walls, paint walls and ceiling. He replaced the faucet, pop up drain, light fixture along with other fixtures. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat. He's a man of character.

Blaise was excited for the opportunity to be creative in the design of my kitchen. I loved his work so much: attention to detail, artistic/modern features, and reasonable pricing all within a timely manner. He finished the job faster than anticipated and I was extremely impressed. Therefore, I let him take on the unfinished remodeling of both my den and media room-- projects I have put off for years. With considerable expertise and well-timed planning, he and his team had the projects completed before my long awaited family reunion. Needless to say, my family and friends could not stop admiring the work that had been done. “Beautiful” was the most word they used when describing my renovations. I would indorse him to anyone.

We recently hired Al-In Management to paint 7 rooms which included a 2 story foyer, a kitchen and a bathroom. The first thing I noticed is that they are striving to make a name for themselves. Get in contact with a few painters like we did and include these folks on your list. You’ll quickly see how they separate themselves from the pack. They came prepared to take notes. They were responsive and kept their appointments. They didn’t let other jobs get in the way of treating our project with the care and attention it deserved. They didn’t let any issue get in the way of completing our project on time. This isn’t always the case with contractors. They openly ask for criticism and on their work, but you’ll be hard pressed to find things done poorly. What will stand out from the beginning of the job is that they will come into it much more organized that your average contractor. Their steps are laid out and defined and each part is signed off on by their crew. They are more than willing to explain each step to you if you ask. One thing is for sure, you never realized how many steps there are to a professional paint job until you’ve had one done. There is more to it than just slopping paint up on a wall. It is an art form and a craft. Going into the project, we weren’t exactly sure of the entire scope of our project. They provided us with an itemized quote with a few different options. From here we were able to pick and choose to get our project in line with our budget. The final price of our project did not exceed our original quote. Without a doubt, we will be calling them for additional projects.

Lavell did a great job repairing some ice damming damage to our dry wall as well as some cracks due to our house shifting over the years. He gave us great instructions for priming and painting and you would never even be able to tell where we had repairs done. Thanks!

Mike at MK Design Build completely redesigned our kitchen with granite countertops, cherry custom cabinets, 18 inch ceramic tile floor and stainless appliances. He created a modern open concept by removing an indoor wall and adding a 4 seat bar. We are extremely happy and very impressed with his quality of work.

Danny hung a kitchen cabinet in my apartment last year. It seemed like a challenge because the building was very old (built in the early 1900's) with concrete walls. But Danny overcame that challenge and put a 1 x 20 inch strip of wood onto the studs to help brace the cabinet, (because the walls were curved) before installation. So on the inside, he put screws that reinforced the cabinet , which worked very well. When finished, it looked great. It was solid. I was relieved to have a place for my dishes, and even my landlord said it was a great job. So if you're considering any new additions for your place of living, call Danny Stephens. Great quality work, because he cares.

LAWRENCE construction & Remodeling is the best!  2 years ago I used this company to remodel my 1927 home.  James Lawrence, and his team of professionals did a phenomenal job on doing a complete remodel of the house including new/refinishing hard wood floors, new electrical, new plumbing, bedrooms, bath, load bearing wall removal and a custom made kitchen. This work included obtaining city permits and regular inspections - this was all handled by LAWRENCE Construction & Remodeling. They were extremely professional and efficient and the project was finished on time and on budget.   Fast forward to the present.  When I had some plumbing issues, LAWRENCE Construction & Remodeling responded promptly and were extremely helpful. They back up their work and their customer service is exceptionally excellent.  They sent out a certified plumber and electrician within days of my request and fixed the issue immediately. The quality of their work and their customer service is first rate!  I will definitely be using them again for any remodeling jobs in the future.   I highly recommend this company and will be making referrals to friends, family, and co-workers.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

        • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
        • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

        • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
        • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
        • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
