Introduction: First and foremost, I use ONLY KIND TRAINING METHODS. My mantra is HONOR THE ANIMAL. I am a creative problem solver -- I have multiple solutions for every problem, many of which I developed myself because no one else had the answers! I am relentless and will not give up! And though I am dead serious about what I do, I love to laugh and have fun with dogs and owners. That's the best way to learn in my view! The immense satisfaction I get from the happiness I give my clients and their marvelous dogs. It's especially rewarding when I have cracked a really tough problem. This is hands-down the most soul-satisfying work I have ever done.

After introducing a deaf puppy into a home with two older dogs I realized I needed a bit of help enter Christy! I have been thankful every day since our first visit! Ive experienced both classes and in-home training, both were fantastic. She has helped me become a stronger trainer and as a result I have three happy pups living under one roof (which was not always the case!) Christy has helped solve difficult behavior issues, especially with the deaf pup, and teaches with patience and kindness.

I really enjoy her teaching methods. I have had bad experiences with trainers that have been borderline abusive in their techniques, Christy's methods are the furthest from this. She puts a great deal of emphasis on educating us on WHY the dog is behaving in that way, not just telling you to do something. So far, I have had 2 lessons with her and learned so much more than I could have ever expected. I would highly recommend Christy Paxton to anyone! I'm looking forward to continuing success and happier dogs!

Christy responded to my description with a plan specifically tailored to my needs, not a general training plan. Due to this, I chose her. We have had one lesson, and I have been working on repeating her techniques at home. Tonight we had a potentially bad situation where a neighborhood dog got loose and tore across the street towards us I was walking my dog. While I could not do all of what Christy had said to do based on the situation, I will say that my dog responded at a less intense level than I would have expected. This is a great thing. I recommend Christy Paxton's Hand in Paw.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Get as much info up front as possible so I have a plan before the first meeting. At first meeting, thoroughly evaluate dog and owner to finalize the plan. Share key pieces of my philosophy to get us working from the same viewpoint. Start basic exercisese. Recommend next steps. Schedule second lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Largely self-taught, I interned with an experienced trainer who shared my basic philosophy of rewards-based training. I have devoured books/DVDs, attended seminars, and am currently a member of Behavior Education Network, which provides the most up-to-date information on training and animal behavior.
