Chuck, Chris and their team turned my dark, enclosed '70s kitchen into a bright open-concept living space. They did wall removal, installed a steel beam, put in beautiful new cabinets and granite creating a bar area, new lighting and did a fantastic job on the detailed finishing work. The team was friendly and courteous, and cleaned up the work area every day before leaving. I will certainly have them do additional projects for me in the future. Great people, great work!

We had D3 Services paint my daughters kitchen. It's not real big, but a lot of in and outs, and they did a fantastic job. I will definitely call them again. Price was very reasonable.

Rod did an excellent job. He gave suggestions on how best to make my kitchen project looks nicer than it was and he sure did. He understands the concern of a landlord trying to save money while making the project looks nicer. The only drawback was the time frame which was not met, but there were family issues that he needs to address.

The best recommendation that can be given any company is if you use them multiple times. I have had Tom do multiple upgrades to my houses over the years. What is unique about Tom is that he not only can do the install but he can do the design also. The kitchen that is on the website is ours. Tom listened to what we wanted in a kitchen and came up with the design for us. He has remodeled our master bath and second bath and installed our tile floors. In our previous house he remodeled our kitchen, installed our wood floor and designed and built our deck. I am very pleased with the work he has done for us over the years and would not hesitate to recommend him for any remodeling job someone might have.

I could NOT have redone my 1980's house without Susan. She was extraordinary. It was a huge job and she made it seem effortless. And, most importantly, kept me calm. My husband and I did not agree on everything, and Susan was an expert at compromise. She took me from flowered, busy wallpaper (very 80's) to a beautiful, neutral decor. We just redid the kitchen and I could not be happier. I highly recommend Susan for your design needs. Very professional. AND, has excellent taste!!

My wife and I were shopping various contractor's for a new kitchen floor. My good friend had just had his entire kitchen remodeled by DRAK Remodeling. Now I helped him move into his house so I knew what the kitchen looked like before the remodel. It is beautiful!! I immediately got Randy's (owner of DRAK) number and scheduled him for our kitchen floor. They arrived early and on time and had my new floor installed in a week and my floor was unlevel in many areas because our house is older. My wife who loves her kitchen adores her new floor, we get compliments on it all of the time. A few months later we had DRAK completely remodel both of our upstairs bathrooms. They were small, outdated and completely dysfunctional. Our new master bath looks like something out of a five star hotel, we love it. Our second bathroom turned out just as sweet. Randy listens to you, answers all questions you have about everything and pours his all into each project. If he wouldn't have it in his house he wouldn't put it in yours. I totally respect that. We had DRAK back recently for some minor painting and as usual Great Job! He's our go to contractor for everything we need, no need to shop anyone else.

Jason was employed to remodel our upstairs master bedroom and bath through a Designer that we had contracted with to do the job. The work that Jason performed was nothing short of excellent. Very knowledgeable in all aspects of the project (construction, electrical, plumbing, tile, etc.) with a fine attention to detail and perfection. I also did not feel that his costs for time and materials was reasonable and did not nickle and dime us for minor cahnges made as the project progressed. I highly recommended Majestic Remodeling for any remodeling efforts you may have and have passed his business cards onto to several friends that have remodeling projects in their future house plans.

Keith is my general contractor and architect of choice for any of my home improvement projects. He is very conscientious of price and working within a budget while providing the most bang for your home improvement buck. He has no problems working with the home owner on design and budget to get you to your goal. I have used him on several major projects including a two story addition with basement, a partially covered deck and two basement remodels (the new basement and the original.) I highly recommend him.

About

I am extremely talented at balancing a room. I bring a great amount of harmony to every space. I love using my own creativity, though strongly believe to get to know my client so I can personalize the space to whom they are, where they've been, what's important to them, etc. My favorite part of a design is wrapping things all up and staging the space. I make sure the design is properly set before I finish up. Design should be unique, interesting, clean and beautiful.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
