- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Rates include not only the time we spend together each week on direct instruction and learning, but the time I spend beyond lesson time truly customizing your curriculum to your needs, preschool - adults alike. Currently, I offer at least 2 recitals (lately virtually / recorded during COVID-19) each year (fall-summer) at no add'l charge.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I possess a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Music from Indiana Wesleyan University. I also hold a Master of Education degree from Liberty University. I began taking private piano lessons at 6 years old and continued lessons until age 12. I earned numerous awards from Ohio Music Teachers' Association (OMTA) and Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) throughout my studies. I continue to build upon my skills today on the keys. I took private guitar lessons for 1 year in middle school, then taught myself up through college, when I studied jazz and classical guitar throughout my collegiate studies. I have most recently become a member of the Greater Cincinnati Guitar Society Classical Guitar Ensemble and continue to perform at local churches and venues throughout the year. I studied trombone for 4 years during high school, where I earned Ass't Principal Chair of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) and Principal Chair of the Wind Symphony in college, among participation in several other ensembles. I was invited to study at Boston University's Tanglewood Institute for advanced high school musicians during the summer. I am currently studying to earn a Diploma in Recording Engineering and Music Production from the Audio Institute of America, and am also a self-taught sound engineer (music technology). I have most recently released my single, "Beyond My Brain," to major music platforms globally, such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer, under my artist pseudoname (NB Grey). I continue to write and record original songs in hopes of bettering the world.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I first started teaching lessons out of my parents' living room my first college summer to a handful of local children - adults. This experience led me to a private teaching opportunity the following semester at my college's community music academy, where I taught several students piano and guitar for my remaining 3 years of college. Coupled with music therapy practicum experience, college really became the place where I developed my skills in teaching and leading in music, especially recreationally. After college, I was invited to be a private teacher at the top-ranked, prestigious music school in my city while I pursued graduate studies. I have spent almost a year teaching there and began my own studio for in-home and virtual lessons in January 2020. I currently have 15+ students who take guitar (acoustic, electric, classical), piano, ukulele, and songwriting. I also offer private and small group lessons on trombone, music technology, music theory, and bass guitar.
