FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Start with the basics. The first step would be to learn the anatomy of the instrument, the proper way to hold the guitar and some basic hand gestures and exercises to get you started. Depending on individual progress and interests, we would then move on to basic chord structures and scales, laying a foundation for advancement. While learning all these things we would be working towards your specific goal, whether its a technical goal (certain levels of speed or accuracy, for example) or a favorite song. All of this with the mentality of being able to play not only with recorded music but to also be able to feel confident playing around other people, and with other artists. I do not have much formal education regarding musical theory, and have a more abstract view of the guitar. My goal with the lessons would be to help bring out your individual style and to give you the tools to carve your own path with this instrument. I believe that everyone with an inclination towards music should have the opportunity to learn and that everyone can feel empowered to do so with the right approach.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Music has been a part of me for most of my life. I was gifted my first guitar at 7 years old and have been almost exclusively self taught.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I would recommend thinking specifically about what kind of music you would want to play, and beyond a general genre. Think of some artists you admire, possibly someone you would want to emulate. Do you have a preference towards rhythm or lead? Acoustic or electric guitar? Think about what it means for you to learn to play an instrument, and try to express that to your instructor.
