We had a blockage problem with kitchen sink drain . Dave responded right away and within 40 min. he showed up. He gave us estimates on the spot with two possible causes. It turned out the drain needed a thorough and long cleaning. But he is very knowledgeable and experienced, and he worked very efficiently with cautions to be as clean as possible. He not only cleaned the blockage but flushed the entire drain with clean water to prevent further problem. And his charge was quite reasonable for what he did (it was after 5 PM but he didn't charge for extra) Besides of all, he is very kind and gave us a detailed instruction to prevent this problem. we are very pleased with his work and definitely we recommend him to our friends.

Overall everything was pretty good. She put some elbow grease into areas that needed a lot of attention. But after I paid her and she left I noticed that the last area she had cleaned (master bedroom bathroom) it was more of a wipe down instead of a scrub. There was still soap scum all over the shower walls and pretty obvious that the drains were still covered in soapscum. It was also getting late and I am sure she wanted to get home, I was tired also. I will definitely use her again, but I will try and get her to start a little earlier.

Do not call anyone else. This company came out on a Holiday weekend, didn't charge a fortune and provided methods for our family to save money. We only have one bathroom in our house we bought a few months ago. We contacted our Home Warranty company to repair clogged pipes. The Home warranty company was here for 3 hours and left our pipes in worse shape than when they came in. They left standing water in our tub and we couldn't flush the toilet at all!!!! On top of that they said we had roots throughout our pipes and they didn't cover that. Of course, my husband and I are feeling duped by the prior owner. Ready to call the lawyers The Service Company responded to my request on Thumbtack immediately and even answered his phone while out to dinner with his wife. They were out the next morning and was here about an hour and really fixed our clogs. The best part of all it was responsibly priced. My family will never call anyone else but the Service Company - Plumbing & Drain for all our plumbing needs.

Darren was prompt, courteous and efficient. While cleaning the gutters, he spotted a potential problem with one of the drain pipes and he's going to fix it before it can become a serious issue. Highly recommended.

Fantastic. Both our drains to the street were completely clogged. They were prompt and worked quickly. Both drains are completely cleared out now. He was honest about what could be done vs what needed to be done. Explained how and why it happened. Will definitely call for any future drain work.

Tommy was a very hard worker and stayed until the job was finished. We had to move hot and cold water pipes over about 12" from basement up, plumb for a 2nd sink in the hall bathroom and move the drain for larger shower.

The pipes under my kitchen sink were leaking as well as the drain in the right side. The toilet was leaking and I had a clogged drain in the basement. The kitchen and bath jobs are complete 100% satisfaction. The basement drain however will need a specialist. Of course Mike had no way of knowing how bad it was until 5 hours later when he hadn't made any progress with it, but he sure tried his damnedest! Mike was very professional and efficient. He even gave me some tips and taught me some basics. I will use Decorators Choice in the future if the need arises.

Top ratings for [these dudes]. They were able to meet an hour early. Called ahead, made sure it was okay, which of course it was. A big printed van pulled up, very professional looking. He introduced himself and shook my hand. He called me by my name and was very respectful. I had even received a giant package from Amazon on my front porch and he helped me bring it in first thing. I have four dogs which don't take very kindly to strangers but he took the time to let each one of him sniff and approve of him. He went straight downstairs and grab a bucket of water checked out the drain issue and proceeded to fix it in under 10 minutes. Before he started he double checked with me about the estimate just to make sure that I wasn't going to be in sticker shock or anything. It was $300 below the quote that Roto router gave us so I told him to proceed with confidence. My dog wanted to play fetch with him so he threw my dogs toy a couple times while he was waiting for his brother to help process payment. All in all it was a perfect plumbing experience and my drain works perfectly now. We will definitely be calling these guys again for any plumbing needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

    • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
    • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
    • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
