Make sure your designer is more interested in your voice, your message, and your audience, rather than their own ideas about where to take the design, and that they are constantly communicative. I ALWAYS ask our clients questions to most clearly identity for us (and themselves) what precisely they want, what they want to say, and who they want to say it to.
