Shannon and Rachel did a great job taking care of our dog while we we were on vacation. He requires some special care and medication and they were able to meet his needs and keep me updated of his status.

Sit. Stay. Grow., LLC took care of our cats and fish for a week while we were on vacation. We got daily detailed reports with pictures, exchanged emails, and always felt that our cats and fish were receiving good care. We also felt secure in that our house was being watched in our absence. It was a pleasure to arrive home and find everything as we had left it. All pets fed, litter boxes clean, food cans washed and in the drainer to be recycled, all pet accidents cleaned up and our mail waiting for us on the counter. It is obvious that Susan and her co-workers take their pet care service seriously and strive to do the best job possible.

Really liked how she spoke to the other dogs in her care when they were upset and barking. My dog's haircut was good and timely. The owner Sarah handled a small incident with my dog with excellent grace and said it was "no big deal". I would recommend her to a friend. Jessica

I'm so glad that I chose All in the Serve to take care of my pets. Allison is kind, professional, thorough, and clearly passionate about animals. From the moment she walked through my door, she became best friends with my cat. I worried a lot about finding someone who has experience with rabbits and she has that as well. She did everything I asked and went above and beyond. She was very organized and asked questions I hadn't even thought of. Most importantly to me, she is not in a rush and takes her time with the animals--staying with them for longer than expected. This proves that she really cares about my pets and likes just hanging out with them! I will definitely continue to work with All in the Serve and would recommend her to anyone!

I was away for 10 days and Brenda took care of my dog. She gave me daily updates which were fantastic. My dog was happy, healthy and well-cared for when I returned. I really appreciated her attention and care to my dog.

Denise is wonderful! She took great care of our dog while we were away. Jazzy was sad to see her go! She was also nice enough to bring in the mail and water the plants. The house looked great when we returned, and I can't recommend her enough -- we know who to call when we need a sitter!

Tim has been walking Arnie, our elderly Labrador Retriever, Monday through Friday for the past three years and doing a fantastic job. Initially it was, as Tim advertises, to burn off a little energy during the day and to give Arnie the opportunity to “take care of his business.” As time progressed and Arnie slowed down, Tim adjusted the visits to a short walk and just spending time with the old guy. There is no question that Tim truly cares about Arnie and vice versa. It’s a pleasure doing business with Tim and we look forward to continuing the relationship for some time to come. Jody is a gem! She sent pictures and timely updates and had a warm and responsible demeanor- definitely the type of person I'm looking for to take care of my fur babes. Even my shy cat took a liking to her. She was able to squeeze me into her schedule on short notice during the holidays which was a huge relief. Would definitely use Jody again.

We were just blown away at what a wonderful job Carol did taking care of our dogs and our home this past week. She asked if there were any special projects that she might do while she was taking care of the dogs. We had quite a few presents under the tree but many of them still needed bows. We had ribbon, just not the time to finish up. Carols bows are absolutely spectacular, I would like a lesson! She also placed beautiful flowers in the kitchen and the house looked better than when we left. The most important thing, Carol took excellent care of our pups. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Carol a 10 AND a call the next time I need a dog/house sitter.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
