Jim did a great job with our rental. He installed a new hot water tank, attached new hand rails on the front porch, and installed a new toilet and vinyl flooring in the bathroom. Along with doing great work, Jim was very knowledgable and offered a few suggestions that would save me money in the future. I would highly recommend Jim's Handyman Services.

James and his crew did a good job! He was very prompt with his responses both written and via phone. Our project was delayed due to rain and he kept us informed about the change. After the job was complete, he came out an extra time to replace a Fence post that we were concerned about the next day.only The only concern was the mess left by the concrete mix material- it was left all over our diveway, deck and panels of fence. It did not come off with water but required scrubbing and extra work from us. This is what we hoped to avoid as we both work full time and have a new baby. We Still have not finished cleaning because so time consuming.

I thought I hired a decent, experienced handyman but proven wrong. Jake insisted the gate I built was higher than the fence line. I agreed that he could cut a little off the bottom. He cut way too much off, which left a gap that my dog could get under. I think he knew he screwed up but took the money and left. Never got back in touch with me even though i talked to him about additional work around the house - another indicator that he knew he screwed up. The gate took me hours to build and he should've offered to make it right by replacing it when he cut too much off. Very disappointed!

Josh designed, painted & installed wainscotting on the ceiling of two bathrooms. The quality of his miter cuts were spot on considering our home is 50 years old with uneven walls. He also painted the walls in both bathrooms. He was very friendly, timely and cleaned up after his work. We would highly recommend him and will be using him again soon for other projects.

Tim and his team do excellent work, offer a great value and above all are exceptionally nice people. We hired Tim and his team to install a fence and not only did he offer us the best deal but he offered us the highest quality product. The cedar wood he sourced for our fence is sturdy and beautiful. We were so impressed his work ethic, quality of work and value that we have since hired him on to do some landscaping as well. We had some major flooding issues in the back and he was able to fix the issue and grow beautiful think green grass over it. Tim is a humble family man who truly loves what he does and will recommend him to all of my friends.

I cannot say anything more positive about Eric and his team. He was extremely professional and honest during this entire project. He was very reasonable and did an excellent job. His team came to install our fence on the weekend, which we were very happy about. Any problems that arose, Eric was able to rectify quickly. Money well spent. Anyone who needs a fence NEEDS to hire Eric and his team!

Mid Ohio did several jobs for me. The first project was a shadowbox fence which turned out wonderful the dogs love being able to run around. Our second project was a 30 x 40 pole barn including insulation, electrical, concrete floor, and a driveway. Do to the amazing job Trent and his guys done we went ahead with a couple of smaller projects inside the house. The flooring in the living room, dining room, foyer, back hall, pantry, kitchen, half-bath, and laundry room were changed out to engineered flooring that my dogs have yet to scratch. After the floors both bathrooms were done including tiling the walls, flooring, putting in a shower, lowering a tub that the previous owner had built up so high that I needed a step stool to get into it, both vanities, light fixtures, toilets, mirrors, painting, and both exhaust fans. All the flooring looks absolutely amazing and what we wanted. Last but not least one of the most important things when remodeling is that they cleaned up the mess and I didn't have to clean anything when they left. These guys are great and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a quality job.

We have used Greg for various jobs on our rental home. I can ask him to do the little things, as well as larger projects. He has repaired gutters, repaired a fence latch, replaced kitchen flooring, fixed our heater, weather sealed some doors, put in new screen/storm doors, fixed a ceiling fan, installed a new mailbox, and various other upkeep jobs. He charges very reasonable rates, and is helpful at coming up with a cost-effective solution if that is what you desire. He is easy to reach via text message and email which is helpful and eliminates "phone tag" issues. Because of the variable nature of the jobs he does, sometimes he is not able to do the work on the originally scheduled day because a previous job may run long. Usually, this isn't a problem, and if the job is urgent, he always comes through.

We contracted Martin N Jones to put in a 4ft wood fence at our home. The finished product looks wonderful! We plan to stain the fence in the spring but it looks great as is. We have a zero turn mower and were concerned with some of the spacing to get the mower around the shed, in the gates, etc. and Martin N Jones made sure the spacing was exactly what we wanted. They are very competitively priced and I can almost guarantee they would beat the pricing of going to Lowe's or Home Depot ( we obtained quotes from both places). We did have some very minor hiccups during the process but nothing to deter our faith in the finished product. They were upfront in saying that, although they've had years of experience with installing fences, this is their first solo endeavor as an LLC and they were working out their overall business model. I think that as they acquire more jobs these guys will have their business end perfected! Overall, we were glad to have worked Martin N Jones and are extremely happy with the finished product and pricing!

Gary & Larry with GM Home Service were contracted to install a 650 ft split rail perimeter fence. The installation was professional, timely, and the invoice was right on budget. I am happy I found them - they are hard-working, competent contractors. Based on the great job they did, I have them scheduled to do more work for me this spring.

On time great customer service. We thought we would have issues with permits and HOA but they handled it all the gents that put the fence in were polite’ respectful and knowledgeable. It was raining lightly the day of install so the driveway got a bit muddy and they barrowed my pressure washer and cleaned it off. Would highly recommend to anyone

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
