We were very pleased with Michael's installation of our kitchen tile backsplash and concrete repairs to the house's foundation. He made sure he was doing things the way we wanted and kept us informed of how he'd go about the repairs. He worked the whole time he was here and tried to save me money by using some of his own materials. He's an honest person and I could tell from our conversations that he's a dedicated family man. Will definitely use him again and for my elderly mother's home, too!

Mike was here promptly. It was so wonderful to have someone come right on time. He did exactly what I asked him to do. I found out he has other talents like painting and tile work. I will certainly call him again and be happy to refer him to my friends.

Everyone says remodels are a nightmare! Not if you hire Jeff and his crew! He's professional, shows up when he says he will, has a great attitude, knows what he's doing, encourages your input, hears what you say and then does it exactly the way you want it done! Jeff performed a remodel on the entire main floor of my home. This included 700 sq ft of laminate, about 60 sq ft of porcelain tile, light fixtures, created a tile entryway, installed my new countertops, bath vanity and all the fixtures! And the result? FABULOUS! Not only would I recommend him, I did; my friend is thrilled with her new kitchen backsplash and tile bathroom floor. I will be hiring him again next year when I remodel the upper level of my home. He was even nice to my cat! I'm having trouble uploading the pics but I have included a few. Everyone who comes to my home compliments his work. So if you want your job done right with a fair price, look no further.

We have used Greg for various jobs on our rental home. I can ask him to do the little things, as well as larger projects. He has repaired gutters, repaired a fence latch, replaced kitchen flooring, fixed our heater, weather sealed some doors, put in new screen/storm doors, fixed a ceiling fan, installed a new mailbox, and various other upkeep jobs. He charges very reasonable rates, and is helpful at coming up with a cost-effective solution if that is what you desire. He is easy to reach via text message and email which is helpful and eliminates "phone tag" issues. Because of the variable nature of the jobs he does, sometimes he is not able to do the work on the originally scheduled day because a previous job may run long. Usually, this isn't a problem, and if the job is urgent, he always comes through.

Brad and his staff delivered as promised and we couldn't be more satisfied with their work. Our basement was completely and professionally remodeled and Brad worked with us every step of the way including changes that we wanted to make during the process. They also made it a point to clean up each day and respected our home which is a nice touch if you have had other contractors that didn't do this in the past. I would highly recommend Brad and Alhi to anyone for any construction needs. Easy and professional to work with and there are no surprises.

I want to thank Dream Catcher Renovation and Design for refinishing our bathroom! They removed our old builder grade bathtub and replaced it with a new 6 foot deep soak drop in tub. They also upgraded the plumbing, installed new cement board, large format tile up to the ceiling, mosaic accent strips and cubbies, exhaust fan, and new vanity light. Even though we encountered some set backs from the beginning, since it's an old house, Brian and his team were able to fix the issues efficiently and effectively. The finished product looks great! If you have any projects coming up, give them a call and let Brian and his team take a look!

Excellent yard work including mowing, trimming and aeration. I have seen the hardwood floor, painting and ceramic bath and kitchen backsplash work done by this company and would rate it with the best in the industry at a much lower cost.

They really did everything right! Estimate came quickly AND they finished the project on budget (how often does that happen)? Brandon was very responsive with questions when I was buying materials, even if I asked on weekends. They arrived for the job on time, were SUPER clean throughout (I kept hearing the shop vac go so they could minimize dust), left us high quality work and talked us through options (like grout width for tiling on floor), and finished the project on time too. They were flexible with scheduling since the project was to redo a laundry room and we were selling the washer and dryer, which wasn't set yet. I'm extremely happy with our experience and would definitely ask them to help us again in the future, so I'd highly recommend Glanton Contractors.

The first time Chris came to my home was to install 800 sq/ft of laminate flooring. He and his team were professional and courteous to my family. They finished the job in one day and that included sawing down my door frames to accommodate the height of the laminate flooring. Since then, Chris and his team have tiled both my bathrooms, an entry way and laid all the carpet in my house. Not to mention paining most of my upstairs rooms. If you are looking for a good contractor with fair prices, that can tackle most any jobs. Look no more than Chris and the crew from Northeast Ceramic Tile.

I had ceramic tile installed in my basement Family Room. This was no easy job-due to the fact that the room was 20 X 14 and one end of the floor needed to be leveled. To add to my unusual request....I of course wanted Black Grout!!! Which is not carried by most places. Jake and Shawn took it all in stride and delivered a perfect installation job. The floor was leveled and the tile and grout work looks amazing. They were very professional from Jake's initial quote to his and Shawn's installation. Also, I was very pleased with their daily update on their progress and the fact that each day they clean up the area, leaving it just as that had found it that morning.....I would definitely use and recommend United Building Solutions

Gunnar and Brandon did a phenomenal job replacing our ceramic tile backsplash with oak wainscoting! They were punctual, had all the necessary materials with them, got to work right away, and had the project done in 4.5 hours, including clean-up. I could not be happier with the results! And, on top of that, their price was extremely reasonable. I plan to hire them for future work and give them my highest recommendation!

I had my entire kitchen tiled by Tyler and it turned out beautiful. The work was completed when promised at the price that was as agreed to. Tyler matched my foyer with the same tile in a different pattern. The house looks great because of Tyler's flooring. I would definitely recommend Tyler for any flooring job!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

      • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
        • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
