After inquiring with a few companies, it was a no-brainer to settle with Myers Custom Finishes. David, Sandy, and Kiril performed an excellent job stripping our two-story foyer of wallpaper, as well as dining room wallpaper, and formal living room in the Fall of 2016. Then, wall repair and painting took place. Entire job took about two days. Quote wasn't the cheapest, but wasn't the highest, yet very reasonable. Average start time was around 9-10 am and they worked hard the remainder of the day and wrapped up around 5-6 pm. Sandy is very good at wall repair, wallpaper stripping, and everything else. David, who has a degree in art, has a unique perspective and ideas. Kiril is quiet and effective. We've already scheduled a return to quote some bathrooms, kitchen, family room, and bedroom. Highly recommended...can send pics upon request.

Jim was fantastic! He installed a sink in the laundry room in the best possible way. This required a more challenging approach since it involved going into the wall and then down to basement. The end result is a top notch professional install that looks and functions flawlessly. He is definitely willing to go above and beyond and "do it right". A pleasure to work with, I highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality workmanship and just all around genuine sweet guy. 👍🏼😃

Ed and his employee have been courteous and have done outstanding work for us. I would highly recommend him. He did dry wall work, stripped, stained, and installed baseboards and trim around windows. He sanded and applied polyurethane to our floor and painted. We're looking forward to having the living room done.

We hired Steve to install a ventilation fan in our bathroom. The existing fan was not vented to the outside so it sucked moist air straight into a space in the wall. Steve came out to take a look and discovered we could install a fan in the ceiling so I could get one with a light that I really wanted. Steve also installed a new switch for the new light/fan and gave me two new outlets! My bathroom only had 1 in the vanity, so this was a BIG DEAL for me! Steve patched up all the holes from the wiring work and also the big hole from the old fan that was in the wall and it looks great, we can't wait to paint! The job was finished in a day and a half, quicker than we initially expected and he left our bathroom cleaner than when he started. I definitely recommend Steve for any work you need help with around the home, we will certainly be calling him again in the future. Thanks, Steve!

I had some rotting wood trim around my front windows as a result of shoddy workmanship and inferior materials used by the builder. The wood rot compromised the seal of my window. Our initial thoughts and what Darrin planned on was a simply replacing the wood trim and remediation the seal around the widows. However, once Darrin started working, he discover the wood exterior was rotten on both sides of the Windows to the studs. Darrin showed me every discovery he made so I knew I was likely in store for more than I had originally planned. The result was removal of over 3/4 of the siding; repair of the wood exterior; wrapping the wood exterior in Tyvek as it was not previously wrapped: replacing the wood trim with quality cedar; putting the trim back and finally sealing the wood trim to ensure no future leaks. Not only was Darrin diligent and thorough in his work, but surprisingly affordable for the amount of work he completed. I would not recommend the builder (Rockford Homes) but have already recommended Darrin to a co-worker with similar issues from the same builder.

I hired Shawn to fix the bedroom ceiling and walls over this weekend. Shawn did a very careful job for me and it turned out better than I expected. Shawn is a very responsible and reliable person to work with. He explained things to me and finished the job very thoroughly. The price he offered is also the lowest amount other quotes I received. I am very glad I picked Shawn for this job. And will definitely hire him again if there is a need.

Mid Ohio did several jobs for me. The first project was a shadowbox fence which turned out wonderful the dogs love being able to run around. Our second project was a 30 x 40 pole barn including insulation, electrical, concrete floor, and a driveway. Do to the amazing job Trent and his guys done we went ahead with a couple of smaller projects inside the house. The flooring in the living room, dining room, foyer, back hall, pantry, kitchen, half-bath, and laundry room were changed out to engineered flooring that my dogs have yet to scratch. After the floors both bathrooms were done including tiling the walls, flooring, putting in a shower, lowering a tub that the previous owner had built up so high that I needed a step stool to get into it, both vanities, light fixtures, toilets, mirrors, painting, and both exhaust fans. All the flooring looks absolutely amazing and what we wanted. Last but not least one of the most important things when remodeling is that they cleaned up the mess and I didn't have to clean anything when they left. These guys are great and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a quality job.

We had a flood in our basement and had to replace the entire living area. We had Mark install new drywall ceiling and walls, update the electric, new entrance to bathroom and total refinish of that room, new carpet installed and vintage fireplace mantel installed over existing fireplace. Very happy with results and completed in about 3 and half weeks. It is total makeover, and we will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.

Zack did an amazing job on my first project. I needed a very large sectional desk taken apart and moved to another room. Upon looking at the desk we find that it was glued together. He was able to get it in the room, placed it in different places, as I continued to change my mind. He was well priced, curtious and cleaned up after he was done. My 1st project was more difficult that I expected but Zach took it with stride and he was able to get the job done perfectly. I was so happy with his work that I hired him a second time a week later. He put a cabinet up on my wall and the cabinet was missing a crucial piece. He was able to trouble shoot the problem and came with a very inexpensive solution. Again he worked hard and cleaned up the saw dust after he was finished. His pricing was amazing on each project. If I ever need a handyman again I WILL definetly hire him again.

John did a phenomenal job! He painted two bedrooms, a hallway, and a stairway for us (walls and trim). It took him a week (working by himself) to finish this. The quality of his work is outstanding - we're thrilled with how great it looks. He was on time every day, easy to communicate with, and he is a very nice guy. He even fixed a hatch to a crawl space we have that was not screwed into the wall very well (we didn't ask him to do this, so it was a pleasant surprise). We would certainly hire him again for all our future painting needs!

He finished our basement, removed hanging cabinets and reinstalled out in our garage. He replaced our countertop, added new in-wall lights and back-splash. He was fantastic. 100%. Curt's prices were beyond reasonable. He knew we were on a tight/fixed budget and worked with us on options and creative ideas to make our space beautiful with out paying an arm/leg. We ended up having two lists. A must list and a wish list. If he found ways to nip and tuck on certain aspects he would tell us he could take on a wish list item. It was very fair. Regarding his work/professionalism, he always kept us in the loop, would take a few minutes every few days to give us an update. He was very professional, strong work ethic and very skilled in his craft. On top of all of this, he was tidy and left the house cleaner than before. Every day. We were blessed to find Curt and have recommended him to all our friends. :)

Dave was very professional. He installed carpet and tile in our condo. We had a very small window of time between closing and move in, and Dave was able to complete all the work with time to spare.

We used Columbus Constructors to install our laminate floors. It was a much bigger job than we had originally thought because during the demo Drew (the owner) discovered we had 3 areas where our roof was leaking and the water was pooling under the carpet along the walls. He handled that issue with ease and then installed the floors as planned. The floor is beautiful and the craftsmanship was top notch! I will be calling Drew again soon!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
