Ali gave us awesome price on the tree removal. We told him we are flexible on when to come over and remove the tree. One day we came home and looked in the back yard and half of our tree was already gone. Ali did great job on cutting it down! Would recommend him to anyone!

Rod removed 2 old ceiling fans, put 2 new ceiling fans up and installed them. After he finished the job, he cleaned up the work area. I found him to be courteous and professional. Love the new fans! I will hire him again when I have anymore projects.

Very professional and careful when removing damaged trees limbs from around homes. Service was very mindful to not create ruts/mess of the yard when getting truck in to do trimming. They kept in constant communication with arrival times and did not skip a beat. I also tipped them for the job because of the willingness to drive back and get a trailer for removal of the tree. Very professional, personable and timely.

Chuck was fantastic from start to finish. He was able to send someone quickly to assess damage to my tree from a lightning strike, provide me a very fair and competitive quote, and schedule/execute the work order swiftly. I look at the work performed, and I was impressed with the quality and efficiency of their removal of a massive Spruce that ran through my deck. They left the area clean - had I not seen the tree, I would have never know it was ever there! If I ever have tree removal/landscaping needs in the future, Check and Leafstone will no doubt be my first call!

Blueprint Landscaping & Design recently performed fall clean-up and other services such as lawn aeration, grub control, tree trimming, and plant pruning. This service was done professionally and promptly. I very much appreciated that Blueprint Landscaping did good work with little direction and oversight. I was very satisfied with the work they performed at a very cost-effective price.

Two companies responded when looking for snow removal, I ended up going with P&R because their pricing was a bit more affordable. Haven't had snow yet so hoping they do a good job.

I hired Clinton to level out my front yard after my house was connected to the street sewer lines. He did a very good job and I would use his service again. In fact, I've scheduled him to come back and prune/shape up my flowering cherry tree. It's good to know his services are available in the future.

Great Job! I have a large yard that was in pretty bad shape with lots of leaves, sticks, and long grass at one of my rental properties. JK Tree service has the highest rating I can give. They arrived on time and did a fantastic job, removing a tree that we built a deck around. Not an easy task but did not damage anything, also raised the canopy level of the surrounding trees on the deck. Price is really great as we had 3 other quotes and JK Tree Service was by far the leader. I do not hesitate to recommend them and will call on them again for all my future tree service needs.

Very quick and responsive. I called and he came out the same day for a free estimate. He ended up being able to take out the tree right then and there (it was a smaller tree) and for a great price! He was quick, efficient, and even very careful around my flowers that were near the tree. Couldn't have asked for a better tree removal specialist! He is very friendly and knows his stuff! Highly recommend!

The yard is almost an acre. There were a lot of tree limbs and debris from over the winter and spring. Offered to do some work out of scope of request like pull some weeds and cut a hanging tree limb. Overall the work was good.

Ethan gave me a quote and was able to take down the tree two days later. They took the tree down, cut it up and left it where I needed it. I would not have know they were even at my house, if it were not for the remains of the tree that was cut up in nice manageable pieces.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
