I have had an outstanding experience with William and his crew. I purchased a home and needed all floors including tile to be removed and replaced (2500 sg ft ) . William of BC Floors was easily reached and responded day one to my request for pricing. After meeting with his lead people (Tile and Wood ) we had a price and plan that worked out perfect. When I was ready for removal of Carpet and Tile William had enough workers to complete the removal phase in one day. Sweeped and ready for all other trades to perform. I was totally pleased and was able to continue with all the remodeling . William asked only to inform him when i was ready for install of Tile and Wood Floors. The Tile crew was outstanding and once on the job they too had multiple workers ready and able to perform quickly and very neat . I was so impressed with the quality and speed . But most important was the eye for detail in all phases . When I was ready for the Wood Floor to install again William had his large crew show up and had (1800 sg ft ) installed in one day !!!! This was a Hardwood floor (Stranded Bamboo) very hard and it looks beautiful. I would highly recommend BC Flooring for all Tile and Floor construction. Time is money and they made the job appear to be effortless . Quality and good people to work with . Thanks William for all your effort and see you for the next remodel real soon. Rick Jones

The job was repairing the grout between the tiles on my back porch and our walk in shower floor. The grout had fallen out.

I needed someone to install kitchen backsplash that would look nice with my new granite countertops. Thumbtack sent me 3 professionals that they were recommending for the job. I went with Dave Peters of Diamond Contracting LLC based on many positive reviews and a Top Pro classification from Thumbtack. It turned out to be the perfect choice as Dave Peters is a perfectionist and works on your home as if it is his. He has a keen attention to detail and is excellent at suggesting ideas for the perfect materials and color matches. I love his installation of my backsplash using spacers to assure straight lines and working adeptly around the many outlets and light switches. The backsplash and grout go perfectly with my ceramic tile floor, wooden cupboards, and granite counters. He also installed some stone veneer panels to replace ugly fake wood paneling that is a 100% improvement – looks beautiful. I also needed some power washing on the roof and vinyl siding of my house where algae, mildew, mold or moss began growing in the moist shaded areas. Dave did an amazing job with this knowing the perfect cleaning additives for the power wash to kill and clean this nasty stuff. If it is quality workmanship that you are looking for, then you need to get ahold of Dave Peters at Diamond Contracting LLC to discuss your job and provide a free estimate.

The original bid was for baseboard installation but ended up being a job involving flooring removal, vinyl installation and baseboard trim. Steve worked hard and efficiently and the finished product looks great.

True Blue did a great job installing our porcelain tiles in a ~20 sq ft half bath, a project just outside our DIY comfort zone. Jason was very responsive and answered all of our questions, even taking extra time on his initial visit to give his opinion on a couple other projects around the house that we're thinking about taking on at some point. The work itself needed a second day to finish up a few things, and was completed for a reasonable price. We supplied the tiles but forgot to also get grout, though Jason was kind enough to supply it for us anyway, along with some simple baseboards. We would recommend True Blue and may very well hire them again for future projects!

Over the past two years Dennis has done several repair and upgrade jobs in my home. I have been completely happy with the end result of all work done. My first encounter with Dennis’s handiwork was following an unfortunate experience where an icemaker water line had been incorrectly installed in the floor along with some new bamboo flooring. The water line leaked and caused extensive water damage to my kitchen and living room flooring. He discovered that, #1, the new subflooring was incorrectly installed and (#2) the water line for the icemaker was inadequate, had been damaged during installation and not been connected properly. He installed a new copper water line in a safer location with a safety shut off at the source and another shutoff behind the refrigerator, put down new subflooring and reinstalled my bamboo flooring as though it had never been taken up. Dennis also installed all new custom interior doors throughout my residence as well as a reclaimed solid wood door with a full window that leads to my balcony. Three other contractors had told me that this door could not be installed and that I should just purchase a new door. It now looks great and is just what I wanted! Another project was removing some old, outdated, ceramic tile that surrounded my fireplace and served as a hearth (not an easy job). I chose some natural stone to replace this and extended the “hearth” area the full length of the wall. He did a beautiful job! Other projects DA BARND Construction has done for me include a complete removal of popcorn ceiling with retexture and paint; window, door and base trim; they oversaw new carpet installation; replaced all electrical outlets and switches, as well as installing some additional outlets and switches; full room paint jobs; bathroom remodel; and currently extending my deck. Dennis has proven to be honest and forthcoming in all my dealings with him. I feel that he is really an advocate for me, trying to give me the best deal but also providing quality workmanship. He shows up on time, cleans up his worksite and is very professional. I intend to hire him again and again and highly recommend him above any other contractor. I don’t worry about the quality of his work. If it’s personal service you need… Salvage a stalled remodel project… Someone reliable... This is the guy!

I had a great experience with Darrin of Xclusive Home. He was very responsive, friendly and most importantly did great work! He installed seamless gutters on the house and detached garage, a mosaic tile kitchen back splash, quarter rounding throughout the house and caulked and sealed the bath and exteriors...all within a week! Darrin is a pleasure to work with and offers competitive pricing, I highly recommend Xclusive Home!

Craig’s awesome. Hired to re-tile around our fireplace as house was built 20 years ago. He came in and explained all that needed done, including materials that needed purchased. He did a wonderful job and we ”volunteerly” paid more than what he quoted. He is truly a professional in his trade! (Also, had a name brand window company in working at the same time, he pointed out bad things they did, thank goodness)! Anyway, kudos Craig for taking your skills to the next level and beyond!!!

We have used Greg for various jobs on our rental home. I can ask him to do the little things, as well as larger projects. He has repaired gutters, repaired a fence latch, replaced kitchen flooring, fixed our heater, weather sealed some doors, put in new screen/storm doors, fixed a ceiling fan, installed a new mailbox, and various other upkeep jobs. He charges very reasonable rates, and is helpful at coming up with a cost-effective solution if that is what you desire. He is easy to reach via text message and email which is helpful and eliminates "phone tag" issues. Because of the variable nature of the jobs he does, sometimes he is not able to do the work on the originally scheduled day because a previous job may run long. Usually, this isn't a problem, and if the job is urgent, he always comes through.

Jarod was very professional and curtious from the moment that I met him. We hired him to repair some tiles in our master bathroom. I had never allowed a contractor to come into my home without me or my husband being present. So it was a big trust factor. Jarod came in and was very respectful of our home from taking off his shoes, cleaning up after himself and locking up after he left. I am going to give him a call to plan my next project. Thank you for a job well done!

Total bathroom remodel on my 1920s home. Completely new design, new fixtures, porcelain tile floor, drywall, baseboard, paint, etc. He enlarged our bathroom drastically by taking 2/3 of a walk-in closet and installed a beautiful tile shower. BEST PART: our gorgeous custom handcrafted live-edge wood vanity!!! Joel has an art degree and it SHOWS!! We're getting so many compliments. Also the tile floor is PERFECT and he worked with us to source quality materials that fit our budget. He's also better at communicating with us than other contractors we've known. He really cares about his work and was realistic about estimates and time frames (the job took longer than we expected but he was upfront every step of the way). If you're tired of "big-box" decor and want something unique, we definitely recommend Joel for design, remodeling, and custom work!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

      • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
        • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
