My experience, so far, has been the upfront logistics of coordinating an out-of-state move of packing, loading, moving, and unloading household furniture. This process, including their timely responsiveness to emails and the 20% down payment, has been great. The actual work will begin next week but, so far, so good.

I couldn't have asked for a better, quicker and kind crew! I called the day of my move to see if it was even a possibility and Gary was able to work me in his already full day. They guys never slowed down, took a break or complained. They moved me out of my house and completely and perfectly packed me into storage in an insanely small timeframe! Even contacted me to see if I made it safe (I moved out of state during a blizzard!) Would recommend them to anyone! Thanks guys!!!!

I had to set up most of our move remotely because we were out of the country up until just before moving day. I was a little nervous because it's never easy to coordinate details like that over email, but we got a confirmation call/email the day before the move. Our two movers were Kyle and Dillon and they were fantastic! They called a half hour before the meeting time to confirm the location and arrived pretty much right on time. They were very hard-working, courteous and handled our things with care. They truly went above and beyond, especially when we had a major unanticipated issue with the storage facility where our things were being kept. Kyle explained all the charges at the end, which were pretty much what was already agreed upon in the quote. Would definitely recommend this company!

Antonio and his crew had to deal with a couple different elements when helping me move. We had to park the truck in the alley, break down furniture, and transport some furniture through my front door and walk it through the back yard to pack it. They did all of this in stride, and the crew's pleasant demeanor never changed. The move took longer than expected due to some of the logistics of moving, but even with the extra hours, they were worth it.

I moved from south Florida to Ohio last August, a move that cost me over $3200. I state this because I had to move again for work, this time from Springfield, OH to Indianapolis, IN. I searched out many companies and was shocked to get quotes for a 132 mile move between $2200 and $4000!! Until I found Dennis Cox and his team at You Move Me. I got a significantly lower quote and figured, after looking through some of their reviews, that I'd take a chance. Aside from accepting the new job this was the best decision that I have made in a long time. I booked the move for Monday at 9am and Mr. Cox said that they would call when they were 30 minutes away. They did, and showed up nearly 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. That was just the beginning. Mr. Cox left me in the hands of his team consisting of Dennis Jr., Darius and Case....three young men who have been taught the right way to work with customers. As I was fully packed, it only took these gentlemen only one hour to wrap all my furniture and load a 2 bedroom apartment into their truck. That's FAST! They were very careful to not cause any damage to either my belongings or the apartment. Upon arriving at my new home in Indy, they unloaded just as quickly, making sure that all the boxes went into the rooms I designated and the furniture was unwrapped and placed where I wanted it. Absolutely FANTASTIC!! If you have a move coming up, do youself a favor and hire these people. They live up to their word and don't waste any time in making your move smooth and seamless. Well worth it!

I highly recommend DSL for any move! I don't remember ever working with anyone more agreeable and accommodating than Fredrick. At the last minute I had to change my move from a Friday to Saturday... moving out of state. Somehow, Fredrick made it happen while offering me polite assurances that he would take care of everything... very calming in a stressful time. The three young men taking care of the move were very professional on an extremely hot day... they worked their tails off in really unbearable heat. All my possessions arrived safely and on time. You cannot go wrong with DSL!!

The hourly rate was competitive with other local moving companies. The movers arrived on time, handled my belongings with care, and they efficiently moved my items up 3 flights of stairs. I would certainly recommend them again.

First class team. Public moving and storagewas not only on time but flexible as I added more items to the move. They took great care of all my breakables and didn't damage a thing. Not something any other mover I used in the past can ever say. They were careful, helpful and made a normally stressful situation run smoothly and professionally. Thrilled I found them.

There is so much I can say about this company, so I will start off with "Thank you for making my BIG move even possible!" Working with Krystal and the moving crew was such a delightful experience! If I had a question, it was answered almost immediately, and no hidden "extra" costs that I have found in the past other moving companies! All my items were so carefully wrapped and packed, I was extremely impressed that nothing was broke, or misplaced, or any other thing that can go wrong when taking a chance on a moving company! And during the actual move, all my items where in order and best of all on time! With such a busy life schedule, kids, job... this was the best and most smart move on my part! And if I ever move again I will be calling this company! I would definitely rate this company with a 5 thumbs up! Thank you to all the crew members and especially Krystal for making my move possible! I couldn't have done it with out you... Thanks again!

These movers were very affordable and the gentleman that did the actual move were professional and very good! The only reason I didn’t give a five star rating was they didn’t send a big enough truck and then tried to charge us extra gas and mileage for having to make a second trip. In the end, they did right by us and waived the extra cost due to their error with the truck size. I did find it unprofessional that the owner stated more than once that she lost money on our move, which was not our fault. They are a new, family owned company and I’m confident that they will learn from this job and send trucks that are larger than what they anticipate needing in the future. All in all, we were very pleased with this company, especially with the gentleman who did the moving of our furniture and boxes. Great job!

This long distance mover gave us the best flat rate price and true to her quote there were no hidden charges. Great job wrapping and protecting our furniture Great job packing. Great job loading the truck and it is backed floor to ceiling. We do not know how she got it all to fit. The other movers we used charged us $800 more for another small truck load. Great job storing our stuff. Great super fast job unloading the truck. GREAT JOB ALL THE WAY AROUND! Everything was delivered damage-free. If you are looking for a mover with quality services, honesty and trust, great price, guarantee delivery when you need it, hassle free with flat rate, safe storage, and a lot more, then stop looking. I Hate Moving is the mover you should use. We were so tired and needed to clean so we can get our security deposit back. I didn't even know movers clean, but when talking to her references, several talked about the move-out cleaning services. So we ordered that too. After we moved out, we simply gave her the key to the empty house. She did her cleaning magic and sent us pictures of every single room and item on the move-out check list. She left the key inside on the counter just as we asked her too and locked the door. The leasing office did a walk thru in 5 minutes and complimented us on how thorough the cleaning was. When we told them that the mover did it, they asked for their information and said that they may be interested in using this mover for regularly cleaning vacant townhouses. I sure hope they do call her and help this mover's business grow big. I give this mover move than 5 stars and all my family and friends will be using this honest dedicated mover.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
