I had City Pro out to bid a single tree removal. They were very nice and professional! The quote was much higher than i had expected but, they were very open on what exactly they were going to do which included them planting a small tree and putting in mulch, ect... They did offer to just cut out the tree at the budget i wanted to go with however we talked about other jobs i wanted done in my yard and we came up witha GREAT price for the entire package! I had multiple stumps taken out, tree trimming, a full tree removal and a small tree planted, mulched, and decorative rocks and it looks FANTASTIC! I will be working with them again on future projects!

we have unfortunately had to deal with several tree trimmers over the last several years, mostly due to dead Ash trees! We had Jeremiah Hess come out and give us very fair bid on a large tree in danger of falling on the utility lines, and he had equipment at our home that night and removed the tree the next day! his crew was by far the best tree experience that we have dealt with, they were very professional and did an amazing job! I would recommend them to anyone in need of tree service!

Baldo and his crew came out on the coldest of winter days to take out 2 stumps and a 30 foot tree in the corner of our fencing. All work was done expertly and to my specific details. No damage was done bringing down the tree. Every request was met and the team even came back after an equipment freeze. Great work and communication. Wonderful price for amazing quality work. Even referred them right away to my neighbor. Brian

I hired GreenBoys to remove the weeds, install a tarp and mulch my shrubbery area, as well as trim all the bushes. A team of 4-5 people came home and finished almost all of it in one session, with a bit of clean-up the next day. They were quiet, very professional, and did a great job cleaning up all the mud, clippings etc. Would highly recommend them.

Joe’s crew of three spent over 8 hours working in my yard weeding, pruning trees/bushes and overall clean up. Joe came last couple hours with another crew member to load up and haul away debris. I am so pleased and would highly recommend. I intend to continue using this service for maintaining my yard.

Due to the crazy Cincinnati weather, we had to delay the initial arrangement. But, Cecil and his company was over the next day, first thing in the morning, and finished the job just as I wanted by lunch time. They removed 3 trees and all the bushes that were covering ceter of my backyard, regraded the area, and cleaned up afterward. Very professional yet friendly! Totally recommend them.

Big Ox Pro Lawns has delivered a beautiful landscape for our home. They took care of everything in one day. After a few days, some plants were looking weak, and I send a picture and a message and a few days later everything was replaced to match the quality of what they had delivered since day one. A great company with personable service and care. We hope to work with them next year to add some more tress to the backyard and upkeep the rest of the landscaping. :)

We hired Beach's Tree & Lawn Care to drop, trees, grind stumps and remove brush. We have had several tree companies to our home to do yard work over the past 3 years, and Beach's was by far the most professional and prepared company we have worked with. We had a massive tree on our fence line hanging over our house, deck and pool, and they were amazing! We will continue to use Beach's going forward. The owners were very easy to work with! We are very pleased!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

        • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
        • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
