I hired Mike to lay tile in my kitchen and my door walkways, change my kitchen cabinets/knobs, hang up and paint some dry wall and insulation in my garage and build a rabbit hutch. Excellent work and a great price.

I needed a home services cleaning job performed on my home and I scheduled an appointment days out , but reached out to JT so see if he could be at my place today instead and he was there within the hour and stayed late to make sure the job was done. Shane installed a patio door on the rear of my home. There was a window in the spot, but no patio door, so framing needed to be completed and the exterior needed to be finished. Weather and bad luck threw some curveballs in the project, but nothing that could have been avoided. My only reason for the good vs excellent review is the the job was not completely finished. The exterior finishing and drywall finishing was left up to me. I am capable, so it's not a big deal, but I assumed this would have been taken care of. Overall, Shane was nice, professional, clean, and responsive.

We are parents of two small very active boys. We've had so many events and sports to run to we hadn't had time to get to the yard. We called Snieder Lawn Care who we had used in the past and they refused to do a one time cut it had to be a weekly service or nothing. We didn't need weekly service, we just needed this one time cut. So I found Thumbtack and requested quotes. Steven and one other service got back with me very quickly but Steven had the first availability. We had been away from home the day he came out and we came home to an absolutely beautiful lawn. He really went above and beyond. We had been cleaning out a flower bed and had not been able to finish...weeds had grown and we had rose bush branches cut. He cleaned out that flower bed as well as the mowing and edging and did weed eating. It was well beyond what we could have expected. It was a far better job than Snieder had ever done and they did a good job but this...this was just amazing. Thank you so much Steven for the fantastic work! We were so happy we even paid a little extra not because we were asked but because we felt the job done was worth more than what we were quoted.

We had Christa help us with the interior design of some rooms in our home in 2013. Our house was fairly large and at the time had a lot of empty wall space. We kept thinking that we would get around to buying things ourselves to decorate, but for us, this would have been a very time-consuming, intimidating project. I had been impressed with the work Christa had done at a friend's house, so we arranged a consult. She was able to meet with us in a timely manner, looked at the items/furnishings we had, talked with us about what we wanted to keep vs. what we wanted to get rid of, talked with us about our likes/dislikes, and was able to get a sense of our style, which was quite eclectic. We needed someone who could tie together the various pieces we already had and make our house look nice. Christa came through with flying colors. She would occasionally text us pictures of art and furniture throughout the process to gauge our likes and dislikes, and she was able to work within our budget to make our house look beautiful. We continue to receive so many compliments on our home decor, and we owe it to Christa. She was able to help us pick out art, furniture, lamps, a rug, and a paint color, and she did it within a couple months and at a reasonable price. We also sought her advice when picking exterior paint colors in 2015, which also turned out great. I highly recommend her.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Mallory on a home staging project that turned out beautifully. Mallory is a very talented young professional who was very easy to work with. Her creative vision for what type of buyer would most likely be interested in the home resulted in a design of the home that hit the mark. The house sold in one day! LLW

This is my 4th project utilizing the services of Jenny Lyon of Interior Attire, and have 2 more in-the-waiting. Re-upholstering a mid-century leather chair, re-designing cushions for 1950's patio furniture, re-upholstering a very fine wing back chair, and presently re-working/ reupholstering a 1930's barrel chair. All very unique pieces. I can't tell you how pleased I have been. Her keen sense of design as well as meticulous attention to every detail has enabled me to feel secure in her every decision. Jenny is very receptive to client involvement, and will bounce ideas as well as fabric samples until one feels excited and satisfied. Look her up...you will be pleasantly surprised.

We ordered window treatments for our entire house from Decorating Den Interiors. Abby provided us with several options and helped us select various styles and types of treatments for each specific space. She also ensured all of the options we chose worked together room to room and from the outside of our home. She went well above and beyond to make sure we got exactly what we were looking for to make our house perfect.

Thompson painting (James ) painted a large powder room and bathroom and an accent wall in our master bedroom. In addition he ended up doing extra things like moving some furniture and filling in some cracks around my tub and other problems that we had. I give James the highest recommendation. He is a great painter takes great pride in his work he is kind and trustworthy and we liked him so much we convinced him to have some spaghetti for dinner after a very hard days work. We will definitely call him again as needed and he's even coming back to finish some little odds and ends in our home after the paint dries. Also he was helpful with paint color advise, and goes out of his way to do a good job

Truly gifted! I felt like I was on an episode of 'Love It or List It'. Not only did she declutter my whole house she stage it purged or repurposed many of my items in ways I couldn't have imagined on my own. She opened areas that I thought were closed and cramped, she brightened areas that I thought were dark and depressing, she exposed areas I once hid and she did it all with the energy, gusto and drive of a Designer Version of the Energizer Bunny. I can hardly put my satisfaction into words so will quote my 7 year old daughter who was pleasantly shocked and excitedly surprised when she came home from school. After walking into the front door she simply stood there in the front foyer, motionless but shaking her head back and forth in disbelief. "Mommy what happened", she said, "it's like we have a new house. It's so beautiful now, I love it!".

I was very happy with there services, that I had them come back for a second thing. They fixed a corner of my house & siding that I thought it was a major repair, costing 10 times the cost. Eugene and Todd made my house all new wood even bolted areas in corner. Then replaced only the siding neeed, damaged. Somehow they made it match. You cannot even tell its sepsrate atall. Unbelievable. They knew I thought much bigger job & the whole house had to be resided but still only did what needed done. Very honest & trustworthy... Saved me $10,000+ id think. I will never hire anyone else. There remodeling my whole master bath in a cpl o weeks. Very pleased.

I have used Nicole for advice on multiple projects and they have all resulted in beautiful outcomes. Most recently she designed my "keeping room" by selecting furniture, a rug, mirrors and accessories. Her choices were tailored to my tastes. She selects items that are quality, but stays within budget and prioritizes which items need a higher quality. I love her professionalism and her work ethic as she is always prompt and prepared. She listens to my ideas and offers choices to include me in decision making. Her designs are energetic and fresh. I love what she has done in my home and wouldn't hesitate to utilize her help in the future!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
