I can not say enough wonderful things about working with Amy! I moved into an older 5000 square foot home in Lewis Center that needed completely remodeled and she helped with every detail to help me and my family create our dream home! Together we decided on a timeless country estate theme. We started by choosing all of the paint colors for each room and light fixtures from chandeliers, sconces, ceiling fans and canned lighting. She shopped with me at multiple stores for furniture, countertops, backsplash, flooring, and carpet. She worked around my schedule to meet with me many times and provided me with multiple options for rugs, furniture, lamps, mirrors, art, bedding, buffets, tables. I made all the large purchases and she personally shopped for the smaller Knickknacks and Decor to include throw pillows, items for my built in book shelves, centerpieces, etc. She is also an artist and did a beautiful had painting in our powder room to really give it that one of a kind feel. My husband and I could not be happier! She is so personable and friendly. When meeting with designers before we decided to move forward with her I liked that she met with me free of charge, and provided base pricing for each room, rather than an hourly rate like many other designers. She is passionate about her work and puts in the time and effort to make sure you are in love with all of the selections. She made the process easy, fun, and affordable. I would recommend her to anyone who wants some assistance in a sprucing up a room or in my case an entire home. Anyone who has seen my home is so impressed with what she has done and I have given her contact to many people that I know personally. She really is the best!!

Our family reunion is coming up in August. Since this was going to be the first family reunion that my whole immediate family will attend I wanted to do something special to stand out from the rest. My brothers and I love athletic sportswear. You can wear in and out of the gym and depending on the brand it can be quite affordable. The general consensus among us was that you can't go wrong with Champion Athletic Gear. Fast forward 20 years later, I still am a fan of great sportswear. I was really happy to see that champion is coming back into fashion. After looking at the logo for a few moments, something came in my mind that was worth trying out. I wanted to take our last name and put it in the champion script and since the champion logo is the C with a line in it, if I flipped it around I would get the D, which would complete my last name. After hesitation on my part, I finally put up an ad on Thumbtack requesting a quote for this project. I received quotes back that were simply absurd for the work that was required. The thought of this not being able to made started creeping in my mind. Then came Salim. He responded immediately and asked about the project and I advised him of the project and my expectations. I then got to the difficult part discussing my budget, I was pleasantly shocked when Salim accepted my budget. I advised Salim that I would be sending him pictures of how the mockup should look. As I was sending him those pics, he sent me a message with a mockup completed. In our current environment when people wait for instructions and are very cautious, Salim was bold and took the initiative to go on Google and look for those logos and began the mock-up. I didn't expect Salim to start the project immediately I was actually going to give him a week to finish. Since I was free I was able to give him feedback in real time so he can adjust the logo accordingly. In a matter of 30 minutes, Salim had the final product completed. He then sent all the final images to my email. To say I was thrilled at the result is an understatement. Salim did an outstanding job. So much so that I have another project lined up for him. If you are looking for a graphic designer or social media expert I highly recommend Salim. A true professional and his work speaks for itself

Kelli brings a smart look and feel to her work. In my case, she provided the guidance and assistance I needed to clean up my home and impart some order and style to a plain (and admittedly messy) living space. She is conscientious and professional, and will help apply some laser-like focus where needed!

Tim is a powerhouse of creative talent. His keen ability to approach a brand and identity project and create a unique concept oriented design is nothing short of amazing. He executes his work on such a high level of creative precision it's almost scary how natural it comes to him. Most times you'd get an equally large ego with this level of talent but Tim is one of the most generous designers I know and I am privelaged to call him a friend.

I requested a PowerPoint design from Harry and I could not ask for a better experience. We discussed my needs and expectations via phone ahead of time, and Harry provided a draft in a timely fashion--actually earlier than the deadline we set. His work was professional and creative; he followed my instructions and added some features to take my project to the next level. I would definitely recommend you take advantage of his services. - Erica T.

Initially, I had very little idea concerning the direction I wanted to take for my branding. They came up with some different ideas but all were good creative approaches. Eventually, we narrowed down the best ideas and I am happy with the end results.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
