d3 Services did an amazing job with our remodel. We had 3 bathrooms that needed varying levels of work (demolition, tiling, drywall, plumbing, electrical) and they all turned out beautiful! They are true professionals, they care about the quality of work they do and they make sure you are happy. They came every day as promised - not the norm with many other contractors! I would highly recommend them!

Darrel is the absolute best!! I own a rental property in the area that had been neglected for far too long. Living out of state made it difficult for me to assess everything that needed to be done to fix the place up. Darrel charged me a reasonable rate to go to the property and address all of the repairs that were needed. I never felt pressured to hire him for more extensive projects, but since he did such a great, efficient job on all the minor repairs, I ended up having him re-do a couple of the bathrooms in the property as well. If you need an all around experienced handyman that you can trust, then Darrel is your guy. He has replaced drywall, cleaned and re-hung the gutters, installed a new light fixture and vanity, replaced the tile in the bathroom, replaced doors, installed shelves, repaired broken blinds, and so much more. Pretty much, if there's anything you need fixed around your house, he can do it, and he will do it quickly and correctly. You won't find anyone better for the job.

Matthew was such a great find for our plumbing needs! He was very quick to respond, flexible to our schedule and very informative while working on our kitchen issues. He gave an amazingly fair price and it was worth every penny for the amount of time he spent making sure the job was done right but also for the amount of time he spent educating us on what he was doing and how to avoid further problems. We will definitely be recommending him to our friends and family and will utilize him and his skills for the future.

I contacted Dan with regards to a plumbing issue I had with my main level half bath. I had some galvanized pipe that needed replaced. The pipe had leaked and corroded at the threads behind the shutoff valve. Partly due to my own fault I snapped the pipe off where it was corroded, compounding the issue. Dan's quote to do the job was notably better than the competition. During the process of the completing the fix he was actually able to save good amount of time and money by not opening up the drywall behind my sink. Another quote had told me this would be necessary which turns out to have been inaccurate. Dan also completed a few other small fixes around the house per my request and seemed very knowledgeable with regards to many different areas of my house that I had questions about concerning potential future fixes. Most importantly Dan was a nice guy, had a great attitude, and had a patient demeanor in answering all of my questions. I ask a lot of them! I definitely will be calling Dan again as I seriously doubt I can beat his prices or that anyone will look out for my interests more. Thanks Dan!

Great second experience, matching the first. Hung tv on wall, hiding all cords and unnecessary wires. Repaired a GFI outside, and installed dimmer switch. Recommended to my parents, who used Complete Handyman for a shower door repair. Will continue to use for other projects, highly recommend.

I recently had a new driveway, sidewalk and 10' x 20' pad behind my garage installed by Safe Guard Renovations. Dave Rogers, the owner of the company is a young ambitious professional. I was skeptical at first because he had only been in business for five years but there is no doubt that he had been exposed to this trade for many years prior. Dave employ's true tradesman, his main concern was to make me happy as the customer. The tear out, install and finish was done in three days. I couldn't be happier. I had some concerns and questions after the job was done and paid for, so I texted Dave and within five minutes he called me back. All is good. I would like to make mention of some of his guys as I said he has some extremely skilled tradesmen working for him. Mike, who was the senior of them all would spend time with me while I was micromanaging the project (getting in their way) and reassure me that the guys that were on the job know exactly what they're doing. Shane, is there master plumber who will repair, relocate and tie in all your drains and who also has an extensive back ground in the cement trades. Som, this man is a bull and will take charge of the cement pour and finishing, complete professional. There are many others but just can’t remember their names. Bottom line, I would recommend Safe Guard Renovations for your cement needs.

Brian and Zach stay true to their business name “BUZY”!! I had a few different quotes for some framing and drywall work I needed. I am very glad I chose Buzy as they came in and not only did what I asked but gave me a few pointers on some of the work I was doing and did some extra projects. Their overall remodeling knowledge and professionalism is great. I would and will definitely be recommending these guys for any home remodeling projects my family and or friends have. Their prices were unbeatable for the quality of workmanship they provide. I will update with pictures later. Thank you Brian and Zach!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
