FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For basic training (sit, stay, come, leave it, lie down, and the beginnings of a nice "heel," or a "watch me/focus" lesson), I charge $400 for 5 sessions, due at the first session. For more advanced training (e.g. therapy dog work), I charge $75-90 per session. For specific behavioral issues, please contact me for pricing.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After receiving a "Contact Form" email from my website or speaking with the client to understand why they are seeking out my help, I may send them a behavioral questionnaire to complete on their pet (if it's a dog or cat), and will complete a personalized training plan based upon their responses. I'll then contact them to set up our first appointment. The number of needed appointments vary based upon the issue(s) they are having and their specific goals for training. For basic puppy training, we can skip the questionnaire and I will instead give you the basic training package which includes information typically sought by owners on how to manage standard puppy issues (e.g. nipping, chewing, jumping, housebreaking) as well as basic training (e.g. leave it, sit, stay, come, lie down/go to bed, and either a "watch me" or beginning of nice leash walking lesson).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biology, with an emphasis on Animal Behavior. My graduate degree (Masters of Science) is in Evolution, Ecology and Behavior, and my research was conducted on a captive group of bonobos studying the various types of bonding behavior. I also completed and hold the distinguished honor of being one of the very few Karen Pryor Nationally Certified Dog Trainers in the State of Ohio committed to force free training. When time allows, I enjoy going to conferences and engage in online seminars to continually stay on top of the newest scientific information regarding animal behavior, techniques for training, and other CEUs.
