David and Sandy Myers worked my small wallpaper-and-paint project into their busy schedule. When Sandy (whose focus is wallpaper) was diagnosed with pneumonia on the morning of the job start the job start, David stepped in and did the entire project quickly and well. We are now friends and I look forward to their assistance with other projects in the future.

We could not be happier to have found Al on thumbtack. He not only helped us decide how much wallpaper to order, but he was very responsive to my questions and helped make himself available on a time that fit our busy schedule. The finished product is amazing and we are thrilled with the quality of work. We will 100% ask for Al's help with all future painting and wallpapering projects.

Wendy has done several jobs for me over the years, She originally put up wallpaper for me then several years later she came back stripped the paper down and faux finished the same walls. She is currently helping me pick colors for my next project! She's a pleasure to work with and I will continue to use her for all my decorating needs.

Brian gave me the lowest bid & was the only contractor who could do the job right away. I was sure it would take a couple of days but he & his "worker" got the wallpaper stripped, the walls primed & then finished with 2 coats of paint. They started at 9:00 & were done by 5:30. They did a terrific job & I love my new room. Brian is polite, friendly & easy to work with. Highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?
