Guljeet was very polite & professional with my 8 year old granddaughter. Although it was a math session, she was inspired by the session & read 2 books before leaving the library. I hope this is a trend, that will continue after every session. I would recommend Guljeet tutoring services.

Where to begin....utilizing a tutor wasn't on our minds for the standardized tests for college. Fortunately my daughter didnt fall into a category that we felt it would be necessary. However, when she took her first pass at the SAT her junior year in high school, she found timing her responses on this test properly and recalling her math from years prior were holding her back from her potential. From here, my mind opened to the option of considering a tutor. I let my daughter help make the decision as well, as it would be an investment. I have heard countless stories of putting good money after bad, and I didn't want to find myself and my daughters efforts on the short end of that stick.... Then comes Professor Z & Westside Tutoring Services........ Through a little online research, my gut and a personal friend's positive experience (after a few weeks of her high schooler working with Prof Z) we asked him to consider tutoring our daughter. I found him as delightful in person as in his referrals online... Once in awhile in life, you find that person who has a true passion for what they do....& makes sure not only THEY succeed but those people around them do....this is Prof Z. He leaves little to chance. He has created a pretty fool proof way of approaching tutoring that will allow your students true potential to come through in results. It is efficient, focused, and worth every dime. His family is a beacon of kindness and support. I would (and have) told anyone considering tutoring to be extremely careful. Don't waste money on questionable tutors....it's not something to gamble with. After Prof Z's tutoring for 3-4 months and my daughter's hard work, she achieved her personal goal of a 1560 on her SAT. She even left this second go around of the test happy and cautiously confident. Who does that at these painful 3 hour sittings?! Thank you Prof Z....proving to my college bound daughter that hard work pays off. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, and to all the lucky community of students who cross your path......

Dan was a tremendous resource for our daughter as she prepared for her ACT. His support, advice and guidance helped her stay grounded, his challenge was always appropriate, and his responsiveness and feedback throughout the process were incredibly helpful -- to both us as parents and to her. He is also very personable and easy to talk to for both student and parent. She raised her score 6 points, and we were grateful to have Dan walking alongside our daughter throughout the college testing process. We've had a variety of tutors over the years with our children, and our experience at Stoke and with Dan has been the most beneficial and enjoyable by far. Thank you!

I am a junior and I had a really bad ACT score that I needed to improve significantly. Matt came and helped me as soon as I contacted him. Unlike other tutors, Matt took me seriously and clearly understood I wanted help with my ACT score. Matt was very patient with me and treated me like a teacher would treat his or her student. I take the ACT tomorrow and unlike the first time I took it,I'm not nervous at all. I'm very confident Matt's techniques helped me and I suggest anyone who is looking for ACT help to contact Matt.

Flexibility too! It was a wonderful experience to work with Barb. We met in a private tutoring room at the Hudson Library. She worked with our schedule and was thoughtful in her planning of materials to study for the ACT exam. Great Personality as well.

Meena has a natural enthusiasm for teaching and an excellent ability to communicate with students. I witnessed her patience while working on some difficult Math lessons. She has helped me immensely with my Algebra and high school Geometry and Calculus classes. She increased my knowledge and understanding of the material. My confidence on the material went way up, and I started to feel as though I could do all of the problems myself. At the end of the year, I had a chance to get an "A". Also, my speed and accuracy on tests improved, which was very important for the SAT exam that I took. I feel as though Meena not only taught me how to do the current math problems, but also helped me discover my own way of learning. Meena taught me valuable study skills, she taught me how to think for myself, and gave me great confidence in all my classes. I wholeheartedly recommend Meena for her depth of knowledge in her subject areas, her teaching techniques, and her demeanor as a person. She is a great tutor and helps students to not just finish homework, but also strives toward complete understanding of math concepts.

Cristy did a great job on my resume and cover letter. I must say that she knows what to add to make your resume stand out. She is strictly professional and communicate to you well on resume issues. She put much effort into what she does and it does really showcase. I would suggest everyone on thumbtack to hire her for her excellent skills. Trust me you won't be disappointed. She is relatively new to thumbtack but her skills make her better than a pro. I am a recent grad looking for a job and how hard it is to pitch out there, I do believe giving a new professional a chance would mean so much to them. Everyone has to start from scratch at one point, right? She in fact put all in compare to other pros and would not disappoint. She does offer a multiple draft revise, and would also work online on google doc or platform where you would be able to chat with her and input any necessary info. For me this is a plus, as I would be able to explain better in email and chat than over the phone. Also her pricing is reasonable for the service she provided me. In fact, she worked extra and thrives to provide all the possible solutions. I really can vouch for her and I promise you on her behalf, you will not be disappointed. Also I would like to add that she is not only good with punctuation and word choice but she also knows how the resume works in detail. Please give her a chance. Thank you Cristy. :)

The College Review did a great job adapting to my learning style. I'm pretty visual and learn by practicing problems, so the instructor modified my private lessons to cater to how I learn. It was also cool that I was able to pick any time of day for any amount of times per week to have a tutor lesson. Overall this was definitely worthwhile because my score boosted from a 22-29. I would for sure hire them again if I had to choose.

My sixth grade son was really struggling in Math. Mr. Rowland began tutoring my son in Jan., 2015 and I have seen improvement in my son's Math grades and in his confidence. Mr. Rowland was very patient with my son who basically hated Math by this point. Mr. Rowland worked with him on fractions, per cents and ratio along with some remedial concepts my son had never grasped before in class. Mr. Rowland explained concepts in a way that my son was able to understand. He taught him strategies to use and helped my son have better number sense. Now my son actually attempts his Math homework on his own with out complaining. My son will continue tutoring with Mr. Rowland through the summer and possibly next year as well. . My son also plays sports and Mr. Rowland was flexible with his time to meet our busy schedule. My son met with Mr. Rowland twice a week. Mr. Rowland was always punctual and his lessons were well prepared and followed closely with what my son was learning in class. My only complaint would be that I wish my son would have begun tutoring with Mr. Rowland long before January.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

      • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
