Jimmy and his assistant transported my (extremely heavy) front loading washer to my upstairs laundry closet, hooked it up and leveled it. They were prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. Lifesaver!

Dave was a huge help. For a very reasonable price, and within an hour and a half, he took care of four jobs that I'd needed to be done for ages, including a tricky foldout closet door fix, securing two rods (curtain and towel) coming out of the wall, and hanging a large picture. Thank you, Dave!

Background: My fiancé and I purchased a condo in downtown Pittsburgh in late November of 2014. We were ending our rental-lease at another location in downtown on December 31, 2014, and had a move-in date planned for the end of December. We planned to contract a complete interior makeover of the condo before moving in, so we had a deadline of a few weeks to get it done. Augustine Painting came in and completed a high-quality project on 1600 square feet of condominium living space for us, including removing all wallpaper (every room), painting all walls/trim in the condo, repairing damaged walls and electrical plates, repairing damaged doors/trim/fixtures, and assisting in repairing appliances, all while beating our deadline. Communication: Ken responded within hours after we contacted him on Thumbtack, and he was able to come directly to our condo within 48 hours to give us a quote and overview of his services. He was highly personable, professional, to the point, and upfront with any issues or concerns that he had as we made the initial walk through. Following the walk through, he and his wife then provided us with an easy to follow and competitively priced proposal which we accepted. Ken and his crew began working immediately. He kept me informed daily on what exactly was being done, making sure to be straight forward and thorough in his communications. He was also specific, upfront, and reasonable regarding anything that he felt was out of scope from our original contract. We had Ken perform a little more work that we had originally planned due to some unforeseen circumstances, and he quickly provided us with additional contracts/documents of scope where needed. Throughout the process, Ken exceeded our expectations in his responsiveness. If one of us called him and he was unable to answer it immediately, he would almost always give us a call back within minutes. Quality: Our unit was originally designed and decorated in the mid-1980s, so there was faded, peeling, flower-covered wallpaper throughout the condo. The first project was for Ken to remove all of this in a timely manner. To our pleasure, most of it was removed within a few days. To specifically point out Ken’s handiness and versatility, we had one bathroom in the unit which had very thick, hard glue beneath the wallpaper. Ken was unable to use chemicals or steam to remove it, so he had several of his associates sand and detail the bathroom before painting it. It turned just as faultless as the rest of the condo when it was all said and done. The second project was painting, which was also done in a precise and high quality matter. After Ken had finished the initial painting, he allowed us to go to the condo to inspect it. He gave us a blue roll of tape, and he told us to put a small piece anywhere that we wanted a touch up or found a splatter. To our pleasure, we found only a few trouble spots which were corrected the next day. Summary: Overall, we were 100% satisfied with the work that Augustine Painting provided us with. I would recommend Ken to anyone looking to contract interior wallpaper removal or painting.

We had Barnes Sklare put in a new half bath into the upstairs of our 1930 home, where there was previously no plumbing, by utilizing a linen closet, an unused space with a sloped ceiling, and a corner of a bedroom. I was impressed with the service provided by Barnes & Sklare throughout the entire process. From the very first step, the estimate, Chuck seemed more knowledgeable than others we had look at the project, and when he sent the estimate, he included computer renderings which were very helpful to visualize the new space, and the estimate was well-written and detailed. He was able to begin the project very quickly and finished in less time than estimated (8 business days for an entire new bathroom!). Chris was the one who actually oversaw the project and he was very helpful and professional. He made me feel at ease and was adamant that I could ask anything or change anything at any time. He gave advice on what he thought would work best in the space but ultimately made it clear that I was free to choose what I liked. On the final walk-through there were a couple of details that we pointed out and he was quick to make sure they got taken care of. The crew was courteous and very clean. They took care to block off areas of our home to prevent dust and cleaned up their work area each day. Overall, I was highly satisfied with the timeliness and customer service of Barnes & Sklare and would recommend them for future projects. P.S. - I love my new bathroom!

I hired Austin to clean out my father's house (the accumulation of ~60 years of "stuff") and from our first interaction to the last, he was highly professional, pleasant, responsive, and punctual. I had to trust the person/company that I hired because I live four hours away. We met and walked through the house, he contacted me that evening with a quote, and came back the next day for a key. Austin and his crew completed the work in two days (including scraping and painting a workshop in the basement). We kept in touch via text, and my realtor checked the work once everything was completed. I would highly recommend Austin for estate clean out work!

We did hire Paul Decker to do some work at our house in Painesville Ohio. These jobs included replacing all the screens in the gazebo painting and also refinishing our deck. Mr. Decker was prompt and completed the job within a few days. Everything was neat and clean up was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about how to accomplish the job and Helped us choose the proper screens for the gazebo. It looks much better without all of the old holes and wear signs. We also wanted a gate custom built for our deck. He manufactured this and painted it to match the rest of the railing around the deck and it works perfectly. The price was fair and I would highly recommend handyman services.

I had 3 rooms painted by Ted Kistler Painting. He did a great job from start to finish. Ted gave me a good price and he knows his paints. He moved my furniture, covered everything and put it back when he was finished. I finally found a professional painter for my future projects. I will recommend Ted to my Friends.

it's a difficult job with a camped space, but he did relatively well, and the charge for the whole job is reasonable. there's a few spots missed on paint over though, but it doesn't matter much as an utility room.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
