Gabe doesn't promise anything he can't deliver. He takes pride in his work and it is reflected in the quality and craftsmanship of everything he does. His first project for us was building a pergola to add to our deck. We get harsh west sun and wanted something open, but also something that added some shelter. We use all the time. It's better than we ever expected. Our next project was a major remodel of our master bathroom. I smile every time I walk in. Everything from the tile to the shower to the tub to the sink. He did a fantastic job. Gabe hires great subs, when necessary, and they are equally as professional. He helped us find a reliable painting contractor that did an excellent job painting our house, and found another crew to refinish our kitchen cabinets. We are very pleased and will definitely hire R Shields Construction for our next project(s)! --Dana Box and Lucy Dolman, Sand Springs, Oklahoma

Gunner's tile man, Jose, along with Camille who provided design guidance, completed my kitchen back splash tile project. Although it took a couple days longer than estimated, they did a great job and we will enjoy our kitchen for years to come.

Tony gave us an estimate for our work, which was installing new cabinet pull knobs and drawer handles into our office kitchen and filing area. We had these cabinet built specifically for our office and didn't want any dings or damage. We were VERY pleased with Mr. Hope's work. His arrival was punctual, he brought the necessary tools and equipment to do the job. The knobs were installed consistently with regard to height and lateral spacing. He cleaned his work area. He worked quickly, efficiently and SAFELY and he stayed within the quoted fee. From what I understand he also does custom work on plantation blinds, and many other specialized jobs. We are keeping his contact information for any future jobs we may have. 12/13/2016, G. Mooney, Risk Manager

Our first experience with MVP involved repairs to prepare our house for sale including a new roof, new front screen door, and a new spring door for our attic in the garage ceiling. It was affordable and they were fast. Since selling that house, our family has had them out to maintain our new home - we had our entire house painted, new windows for our front doors, and replaced our toilet. Again, very reasonable and their work is quality. We will have MVP out for future home projects!

Bridget Labadie did an amazing job transforming our home. Labadie Construction was contracted to add an entire second floor to our house consisting of a gameroom and two bedrooms each with their own bathroom areas. Everything went smoothly and she also undated our downstairs powder bath and Kitchen as well as adding hand forged custom Iron stair rails that were stunning. I would highly recommend her and her company to anyone looking to do a first class detailed project.

Aaron came out to help with a few additions to our kitchen remodel, and we loved his work so much we had him do all of the “DIY” we were going to try and tackle ourselves. We couldn’t be happier with that decision! His skills in craftsmanship, reliability and precision show in his work. In addition to his great work, he leaves the project cleaner and in better shape than before. These are only some of the reasons we will definitely be using him again!

Brandan is awesome! We moved to Bartlesville in April 2015 after buying a foreclosed home built in the 50's. Brandan helped us from day one with a complete demo and rebuild from the studs, rafters and joists. It was a huge project. He replaced all our plumbing with new PEX piping, and installed new drainpipes in the entire house. He installed fresh drywall on walls and ceilings and completed the mudding, taping, and sanding. He put in new subfloors, added 2 new walls, closed off a doorway and created a walk thru from the kitchen. He helped us install all new cabinets and also built several custom cabinets that saved us money. He installed all new ducting for our new HVAC and a new whole house fan in the attic. He installed a complete new bathroom for us. The list of what he did is endless! I can't remember it all! We have purchased a second property and plan to build a rental home on it. Brandan will be totally involved in the entire project from start to finish. He also is going to help us put on a new roof on our large detached garage and build a deck off the bedroom and install french doors leading to it. Hire Brandan, you will be happy! Jason was amazing to work with! I felt as though his designs were creative and unique while still feeling classic and traditional, which is just what we wanted. Jason talked us through each of our ideas and gave us his professional input, to make the home as best a fit for our family as possible. I highly recommend him and his work! Absolutely wonderful!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
