I had an excellent experience when I took our dog Minnie to Basic Puppy School at Top Dog Training. Merit Day was very knowledgeable about the different breeds in the class and she shared that knowledge with the class. In addition Merit was an excellent instructor and very patient in working with everyone in the class. Merit was also willing to take time to work individually with you when needed. Minnie learned a lot in the class and I would certainly recommend Top Dog Training to anyone. I plan to take Minnie through the next level of training with Merit Day.

We learned many new techniques to help us train our dog. Since she's still a puppy, some nights she did great and other nights not so well. Merit was always positive and gave us other things to try. She was very punctual and our time was well spent.

The experience for LuLu, our puppy English Bulldog, was very beneficial in teaching us how to deal with some of her undesirable doggy traits. Unfortunately, we had to miss a couple classes due to conflicts which we know was not good, but the time we spent with Meredith was very beneficial. It appears that the success of the training venture is greatly influenced by the breeds, nature, types, ages, sizes, numbers and dispositions of the other dogs in the class. LuLu probably was a greater distraction to the other dogs in the class than they were to her. LuLu could probably benefit from a solo follow-up.

Merit did an outstanding job with our german shepherd puppy. Our 11 yr. old daughter did all of the training with Merit's guidance and had a blast. Our puppy learned so much from her including basic obedience and several fun tricks. I would definitely (and have already) recommend Merit's training for any of your puppy needs. She goes above and beyond and really loves these dogs and it shows.

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Continually reading newly published books on dog behavior and training techniques.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My love for and personal insight into dog behavior.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Early puppyhood learning. Teenage doghood manners development. Rescue dog behavior modification training. Training with dogs for their social and mental stimulation.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
A family contacted me because their home was ruined in a tornado. They had just gotten 2, 8 week old, Siberian Huskies. After 6 weeks in a hotel with the puppies it was clear that the option of keeping them was becoming more and more difficult. I took the puppies and kenneled and trained them during the most influential weeks of their life. I made sure the family members did the necessary visits, training, walking, and socializing with the puppies to continue to bond properly. When the puppies went home it was like they never had left. The family was intact and the development of the puppies wasn't disrupted by the disruption of the family moving around.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you are considering training your dog then you are on the right track. Don't be intimidated, you can accomplish more than you think. It will always improve your life with your pet.
