Very good cleaning job on travertine tile & grout. Excellent demeanor of service prrsonnel. Fair price. Wish service personnel were more fully informed about resealing travertine. We are left nervous about whether travertine is unprotected & therefore open to future problems. Their advice totally opposite of homebuilder/tile layer!!

We recently purchased an older home that needed some much needed cosmetic repairs (painting, texturing, new countertops in kitchen and bathrooms, new farmhouse sink and backsplash, and a custom built shed). Kaphar did a fantastic job in all aspects! All the work was done in the time frame that we were given, and the quality is top notch! We are very happy with everything Charles and Kaphar did for us and our new home!

Chris did a great job on the tile repair in the bathroom. In addition he moved and replaced an electric outlet and switched out the sink faucet which required some additional plumbing work. I feel like I got great value because I was able to get the work done using one guy instead of three.

Rockin R Services really ROCKS. Very pleasant and will perform professionally on any of the tasks that I have requested. Good about calling to let me know if they are running late or even early to see if they can come earlier than scheduled. I am not through hiring Richard and Gina and actually look forward to next job I will have for them. So far painting, clean and repair rain gutter, clean out storage bin and organize, clean and organize work shop, haul litter to dump, clean house including wood floors, dusting, help in hanging and arranging art-work (photos) on walls. They like good music also - As their name implies they really ROCK!!! Thanks Thumbtack. Much better than other hiring services I have dealt with.

We needed ceramic tile in each bedroom and also backsplash in the kitchen. And we received several bids and although all of them guaranteed their service. It was LDN who we went with due to David's attention to detail in explaining each step by step process. And although we had changes, his motto was " the customer is always right". Me and my wife are very happy with his expertise and his attitude towards us as a customer. We also hope to use him again in the future with projects we have to do on our house.

Family owned company, Gustavo (the brother/ owner son) performed the work. He was very personable, polite, and took pride in his work. He encountered unexpected challenges (old non-square house, tile inconsistencies, etc.) but recommended solutions to make it look right. I'm very pleased with the work, will use company in the future.

I am absolutely thrilled with my newly tiled shower; the results are stunning. Garret is an artist. His work is meticulous; the details clearly matter to him. Couldn't ask for more from him and the two craftsman he brought in- cleaned up every day, extremely polite, great communicators and delivered on their promises. I will be recommending him to friends and family and plan on using him again as I continue updating my 20-year-old house.

Got something arranged immediately when we were in a time crunch. He came out within an hour and started the job and finished it the next day. When problems with the original plan came up when his employee was doing the tile job, he came out personally and worked through it to figure out a solution. I was pleased with the final project and impressed by the super fast turnaround.

Have done several small jobs with Gathright's. Mostly repairs rather than installs. Examples are replacing the T-111 sheeting on the back of my wellhouse/shed. Repair to a bathroom window that was becoming loose in my mobile home which required removing the window and replacing wood to re-install securely. Both of these jobs were completeled satisfactorily on the same day. He utilizes time well and is a good troubleshooter. He has a good knowledge of tools, repairs, and is easy to work with. I will rely on him for many home repairs, just this week, we had him out to repair the septic system lines and it is back to operating smoothly.

After having 8 different remodeling contractors come and give us estimates for our bathroom remodel, unfortunately none of them were within our budget. Then the storms rolled in and our roof started leaking and Ricky with 1st Quality Roofing & Remodeling came by and gave us an estimate for the roof AND an estimate for our bathroom remodel. We struck the. Jackpot with Ricky and his crew. Not only was Ricky at our house everyday during the roofing job but he, himself walked around our property and picked every nail and roofing rack that was on the ground just to insure that none of our children stepped on one or that anyone drove over one. Once they completed the roof, which turned out better than I could have ever requested, he started the process of gutting our bathroom. The bathroom was a full gut job, and they finished it in 1 week. He removed the bathtub and he tiled from the floor to ceiling a new shower with gorgeous mosaic tile detail throughout. He tiled the floor and tiled mosaic tile from floor to ceiling behind the new floating vanity and it looks amazing!! Everything was textured, painted and new base boards were installed, which we didnt expect because we didnt know that was even part of the estimate he quoted. I cannot praise Ricky and his amazing crew enough. I would recommend and WILL recommend him to EVERYONE I know. If you need ANYTHING done with your home, roof, remodel, landscape, deck built, and want it done RIGHT, with a trustworthy contractor AND at an AFFORDABLE price, then look no further because 1st Quality Roofing & Remodeling is the ONLY call you need to make!

Tiffany did an amazing job. She was very creative and did everything that was discussed. It was an older home and was a little harder to work on. She kept constant communication and did what she said she was going to do. She is very sweet and honest. We cant wait to use her and her team again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.
