His pricing was extremely reasonable and I will certainly use his services again with whatever home/plumbing issue that arises in my home. Very professional and nice to work with as well.

Jose and his crew are second to none. I contacted 5 contractors for my master bathroom renovation quote. JLC Renovation (Jose) and his vision blew them away. His crew are pure professionals, friendly, courteous, experienced, and total professionals. Their attention to detail is above and beyond. They took my 1975 era bathroom and turned it into the bathroom of my dreams. Without any hesitation I shall be hiring JLC Renovation for all future projects.

We needed ceramic tile in each bedroom and also backsplash in the kitchen. And we received several bids and although all of them guaranteed their service. It was LDN who we went with due to David's attention to detail in explaining each step by step process. And although we had changes, his motto was " the customer is always right". Me and my wife are very happy with his expertise and his attitude towards us as a customer. We also hope to use him again in the future with projects we have to do on our house.

I hired 8 Henry’s Constuction to make some repairs to the siding on my home. Dustin Henry, the owner, was very responsive to making the repairs at my home. And his cost for the work was very reasonable. I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again. Great job!

Our home was hit by a massive hail storm. We were inundated with Contractors stopping by. The very first conversation my wife and I had with Roger Wright we knew he was the one for the job, so he was the last one we talked to. Roger was at our house every day before his crew, they finished exactly what they said they would do (and more), and the quality of work was phenomenal. So much so, that we recommended him to our family later after they were it by a different storm. They received the same service and quality of work that we did. Great company.

Steve is awesome! He has done several projects at my home, my family's home, and where I work. Anything from sheetrock, to painting to building cabinetry. I live in a new home and my new washer and dryer wouldn't fit. He was able to move the cabinetry and you can't even tell! Great work!

The crew paid attention to details and was very well versed in what we needed to have done. The crew's experience with framing and how to tie in to existing structure really put us at ease during the whole process.

Marcus honestly made me feel like he worked every possible angle, including many I would have never thought of, in order to get me the best value in my home. I could not imagine another builder going to the lengths he will go to in order to provide his customers with the most for their money. I couldn't believe the contracts he had and how many contractors were willing to give us great deals because they said they wanted to work with Marcus (their words not mine). You will never regret the decision to let Marcus build your home. My name is Josh Dobbs and my phone number is 405 203 9085, call me and I'll tell you how great of a job Marcus did for me.

After having 8 different remodeling contractors come and give us estimates for our bathroom remodel, unfortunately none of them were within our budget. Then the storms rolled in and our roof started leaking and Ricky with 1st Quality Roofing & Remodeling came by and gave us an estimate for the roof AND an estimate for our bathroom remodel. We struck the. Jackpot with Ricky and his crew. Not only was Ricky at our house everyday during the roofing job but he, himself walked around our property and picked every nail and roofing rack that was on the ground just to insure that none of our children stepped on one or that anyone drove over one. Once they completed the roof, which turned out better than I could have ever requested, he started the process of gutting our bathroom. The bathroom was a full gut job, and they finished it in 1 week. He removed the bathtub and he tiled from the floor to ceiling a new shower with gorgeous mosaic tile detail throughout. He tiled the floor and tiled mosaic tile from floor to ceiling behind the new floating vanity and it looks amazing!! Everything was textured, painted and new base boards were installed, which we didnt expect because we didnt know that was even part of the estimate he quoted. I cannot praise Ricky and his amazing crew enough. I would recommend and WILL recommend him to EVERYONE I know. If you need ANYTHING done with your home, roof, remodel, landscape, deck built, and want it done RIGHT, with a trustworthy contractor AND at an AFFORDABLE price, then look no further because 1st Quality Roofing & Remodeling is the ONLY call you need to make!

As the president of a very large homeowners association, I have used BTC on everything from concrete work, stucco, new drainage, fencing, electrical, and dirt work. After issues with our mowing/landscaping contractor, they are now our sole provider for mowing, landscaping and sprinkler repair. I can always count on Blake to do what he says he will do and do it right. He's fair, honest, and trustworthy. I am so glad I met him. He is my ever-present "easy button". Trust me...Blake will get it done and get it done right.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

    What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

    • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
    • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
    • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
    • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.
