Anibal & Juan Grimaux Painting did a wonderful job on the exterior painting of my home. Very professional & polite not pushy & explained the job prior to doing the work very well. They were not the highest or lowest bid, but I felt they were the best team for the job after all quotes were submitted. They do the work themselves & do not hire anything out. I would hire them again.

Kyle and his crew were professional and efficient. They did a great job of painting my 2-story tall living room walls and ceiling in just one day. I touched up one little area where the paint didn't cover as thick, which I noticed after they left and the paint had dried, but overall I am pleased with the the end result. I'll definitely call them again in the future.

Hired Travis, to repair a squeek, on one of the bedroom floor, he found the problem, also told him I needed to paint the room but needed the floor repair first, he told me he could paint it and my carpet needed to be clean, he said he could do that also,. Wow nice to hire a handyman, so far he repaired the floor , and has painted, doing a good job, will be cleaning the carpet later. I will hire him in the future for other projects. Thank you Travis.

Bob did several small jobs for our family. He was great at communicating. He took pride in his work and worked very hard to get my paint & stain colors to match existing in the home. He did an excellent job refurbishing exterior lights so that they look better than brand new. I'd strongly recommend giving Bob a call for any home improvements.

Greg Pearce is an great guy. He is also very professional when it comes to doing business. He listens to the customer and then ask questions so that he understands exactly what the customer needs in order to accomplish a specific goal. For instance, his company painted the inside of our house. Greg personally measured all the rooms so that he could give us the most accurate estimate. My wife and I really appreciated that. His company also power washed the outside of our home and did some lawn care as well. It was all good work and was performed in a timely fashion. DBM is a reputable company and Greg Pearce is trustworthy. He is willing to make things right with the customer. Go with Greg Pearce and DBM.

Marcos did a excellent job replacing siding that had ripped off of my house in a storm and matching the paint to paint it. He was quick to respond and arrived early. I was at work while he did the repairs and he kept me posted by sending me pictures of the progress. I highly recommend him!

Matt has built a deck, painted several properties for me, and also has done all cabinetry and trim work for me for the last several years. His work is top notch. He refuses to cut corners and it shows in the final product. I wish I had more for him to do. His work makes me look good and is typically what gives me repeat customers. He's currently working on a set of alder cabinets and they are beautiful to say the least. Keep up the good work, looking forward to working with you.

Metro Remodel and flooring remodeled my entire salon from putting in new flooring, painting walls, a compete bathroom remodel, installed new lighting, crown molding, installed wash stations, cut a doorway between the two spaces I had leased and trimmed it out beautifully and built out facial and massage and nail rooms. The remodel was done in a timely manner and was well above my expectations. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them. I love my new salon.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
