Cortez is your man. Promptly responds to your request. When you meet him he instills confidence he knows what he is doing. He does professional work. While he is a journeyman painter he is very knowledgeable about construction. He comes from a family of contractors, his father being a roofing contractor. His pricing is very competitive and his product first rate. Try him and you too will be recommending him to others.

I hired Tony's Professional Yard Care (West Sky Construction) to paint my house. They were amazing! Quality work, excellent painter and great customer service!! Without a doubt I would hire them again and I am hard to please. Would love to be able to post pictures here of the before and after so everyone could see the meaning behind my words. Thanks again Victor and Carlos.........we are very happy!

Ben and his team were amazing! They were very flexible with my schedule and start times and communicated with me very clearly. I even changed my trim color mid way through and they were very accommodating. I've been working with multiple subs through out my house project and was most impressed my Ben and his team, they have been my far the most professional. The quality of the job was also fantastic! Highly recommended! Also, I went out and got multiple bids from other painters and Ben's was very competitive and the best value for the money.

I met Scott at the Salem Home Show, and had him come to my home to give me an estimate on painting the inside of my home as well as the outside. I had other estimates and they were over twice the price that Collage Pro Painters quoted. They did a wonderful job on painting my home inside. They moved the furniture, and clean up each night before leaving. I was very satisfied with the results.

Andy and his crew are AMAZING! They are the only painters I will use. Andy's customer service, knowledge of color palettes, paints and textures is great. I trust his taste more than mine! He has great attention to detail and always double checks his crews work at the end of the job to make sure everything is perfect. He's painted two houses for us - both inside and out. His prices are very fair and he uses quality products. I would recommend Andy and his crew in a heartbeat!

We have enjoyed having Tracie do two projects for us in our home. The first was to stain a pair of decorative wood pieces to match existing oak woodwork and to cover a chandelier escutcheon with gold leaf. The results were stunning, especially the gold leaf. The second project was to, again, stain a pair of wood decorative pieces to match existing woodwork. And, again, we were extremely pleased with the finished work. Tracie is a delight even just to be around, and her work is truly a magnificent form of art. She is very considerate and careful to keep the surrounds of her project clean and protected. And, her rates are reasonable considering the quality of her work. We look forward to being in touch with her again in the future for some other project and will recommend her highly to others.

I am very pleased with the outcome of my paint job with College Pro Painter. Mine was the second house they painted and it took longer than first estimated. I believe this was due to lack of experience. It was still completed in 3. 1/2 days. I am pleased with the end result and all of the young people were friendly, courteous and worked hard. I was kept up to date on work schedules and changes as they occurred. I was home most of the time and available for clarifications and authorizations as needed. Overall things were handled professionally and everyone learned through the process. I am still happy with the paint job and overall experience. Clean up was done and I was asked to look over everything to help catch any missed spots. Well done!! (I would give a five star but some inexperience at the time was part of the overall experience.)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
