Heather is very nice and thoughtful, and was willing to come to the house to meet my animals as well as get the layout and go over my needs while away. She stayed a couple nights to take care of things and I felt fully confident in her services. She performed well and is completely trustworthy and I felt safe leaving my babies in her hands. Heather is experienced with all types of animals and she also left the house in immaculate condition. I am excited to use her again for house-sitting and pet-sitting services!

Nicole was amazing! We only had a few days with her and she taught us everything she possibly could. She was assertive with our pup and help us do the same. My husband did the sessions with me and while he practiced with our dog, I practiced with Flynn, Nicole's well trained Australian Shepherd. That proved to best way for us to learn as we were both able to be active. Watching her with her dog provided a great example to us if what we were training our dog to do. Nicole was patient and very helpful. He repeated herself often and encouraged us to take notes to ensure that we grasped every concept she taught us. Our 6 month old puppy is doing great! He walks well on a leash and obeys commands like come, sit, down, stay, and heel. We are now practicing of leash training and with Nicole's help he is doing great! I would recommend her to anyone who has adopted a dog of any age.

Kendra visited my cat twice a day across a long weekend while I was out of town. He is diabetic and requires insulin injections-- and this was no problem for her. She stopped by earlier in the week to meet the kitty, gather instructions, and get the key. Everything went well and she sent a text during the weekend to let me know that he was doing just fine. I plan to hire Kendra for my future cat-sitting needs!

I have two dogs, an aging greyhound and a younger Great Dane. Laura has assisted with their care for the past year. She lets them out mid-day while I’m at work and she has done pet-sitting for me on several occasions. Reliable — Laura has never missed a scheduled visit! Knowledgeable — Laura has good dog skills and intuition. She is conscientious and lets me know if she notices any health or behavior issues. She is knowledgeable about both. She’s taught my greyhound to bring his toy back in the house with him after he goes outside and has worked with him to slow down so that he doesn’t slip. Conscientious & Capable — Before pet sitting, Laura goes over the dogs’ daily routines, medication, feeding, walking, etc. She sends an occasional text to check-in and let me know all is well. Every time she has done pet-sitting, we come home to happy dogs and the house is in good order. If there was an emergency, I know Laura would make good decisions. Most importantly, I believe Laura genuinely cares for my dogs. If you’re looking for someone to do a daily potty break, or walk, or you need someone to pet-sit, I honestly don’t think you could find anyone better than Laura. She’s awesome!

Sit & Stay was my go to pet sitting service for many years until I moved out of state. My kitties always had the best care from Colleen and Carol, I could travel without worring about them. I wish I had a service as good in my current location.

Her skills as a canine therapeutic massage clinician are soothing, calming and evident right away. The medical and behavioral history taking of pet and owner is excellent. Compassion and "eye-for-detail" is her forte. The medical response time has been rapid, with 3-5 sessions in my overview, as being very good. Many sooner than 3 sessions. Gail will work diligently for each client and their pet!

Gail has been very professional. She has walked our sometimes stubborn and hard to manage Dalmatian for several months. She even takes pictures to let us see our dog when he takes a walk. She has given us advice about how to calm our dog for his separation anxiety and even given us a collar to help with his whining and barking. I cannot say enough about the level of professionalim and passion she has for animals. Hire her, she will take care of your animals with love, compassion and kindness like they are her own. Highly Recommended!

Sheri Raynor has watched over my 2 dogs on a 5day a week schedule for over 3 years. She is very knowledgeable and has administered medications for them, groomed them and made them exceedingly happy! She is very trustworthy and flexible. When my husband died Sheri kept my household in one piece and absolutely kept my Labrador from being overwhelmed by the loss of his best friend. I highly recommend Sheri Raynor. She is the best!!!

Ginger has house sat and taken care of my dogs on two separate occasions and did an excellent job. My dogs love her. When I returned home my house was clean, dogs feed and happy, and an extra nice surprise waiting for me. I travel worry free with Ginger house sitting and caring for my furry family members.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
