I have worked with Corey for the past three months. I originally sought him out for fitness and weight loss but with the initial diagnostic tests discovered several postural issues that needed correction. I am seeing some big changes that have also been noticed by others. I am impressed with Corey's professionalism and the trainer's gym we work out in is well equipped and never crowded. Additionally, what stands out to me is the non-judgmental attitude of all the trainers and very "non-jock" atmosphere of the gym. I sought out personal training on the recommendation of my physical therapist. The goal was to continue strengthening exercises to improve the condition of my injured ankle and problematic knees. I have to admit, I was terrified to start working with a personal trainer... I was obese, out of shape, and feared that I would be judged. Then I stumbled across Corey at Thrive Body Balance and realized I had nothing to fear. He was very welcoming and willing to work with me unconditionally and without judgment. I've been working out with Corey weekly for nearly 6 months now. I feel so much stronger, and that has helped me both physically and in terms of my confidence. I also feel like I'm taking great strides towards lifelong health, as Corey works with me on "corrective" exercises to improve the alignment and balance of my body. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?My base price for personal training is $50 per one hour session. For two-on-one training, the base price is $35/hour per person. For small groups of up to four on one training, it is $25/hour per person. I offer batch discounts for all of these services however, with 5% off for a 6 session package, 10% for an 12 session package, and 20% for an 18 session package. This last package is unsurprisingly the most popular, and saves you $180 per 18 sessions. For massage with cash prices, the base price is $75 for a one hour session or $112 for 90 minutes. Discounts are available for new clients or regularly scheduled sessions. For neuro based rehab work it is $90 for a single one hour session (I start with a two hour session), or $80/hour session if paid in advance. You have the option of purchasing a package in advance of 3 hours of neuro work with 1 hour of neuro based manual work for $285. Additional services are available with a range of pricing plans and combinations. I offer manual work under some insurance plans.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?In addition to any initial questions, I prefer meet with every potential client/patient in person to talk over their goals and what they're really looking for, their questions, discuss my methods and introduce them to my facility. We spend time figuring out if we're a good fit, or if another professional is a better fit for their needs. With the rehab side, we will do an initial (no charge) consultation to go over your initial relevant health history, check and make sure I'm the appropriate professional for your care needs, and give you an idea of what the work I do is and how it works. From there, we just get started.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I was trained at the National Personal Training Institute of Portland, a licensing length and quality school (Note: there is no training licensing requirements yet, but this is what it would be, and compare to such programs as a massage licensing program). I have gone through several additional training certifications from suspension systems to kettlebell training, and others. I additionally am a certified neurokinetic therapist, working as a primary rehabilitation professional for a wide range of physical pains and dysfunctions ( thrivebodybalance.com/neurokinetic-therapy/ ). I am also a licensed massage therapist (OR LMT#: 22299), having been trained at the University of Western States clinical massage therapy program. I have been additionally trained in a neurology based cranial technique, the use of rock tape medical taping for performance and rehabilitative purposes, and the list generally goes on. On top of my formal training, I am a voracious researcher and writer, working on a movement therapy book and seminar, among other projects at the moment.
