"I have not had many massages in my life and have always considered them to be a luxury for relaxation and for counter acting stress. And indeed a massage does relax and release stress but I now realize that a massage can also be therapy and a path to recovery for injuries or ailments brought on by routine life. Stephanie is very knowledgable in anatomy and how the body works. She not only gave me an excellent massage but also provided me with simple exercises so I can strengthen weak muscles that are at the root of my problems. The over all experience was wonderful, calming my senses while deeply working my muscles and tendons. I am now a regular client and feel better than I have for years. Kathy"

"When I think about my previous frame of mind about massages, I’m reminded of a scene in the movie Me and You and Everyone We Know when the female lead is in the shoe store. The salesman asks if her shoes are comfortable and she meekly says “I guess.. they rub my ankles, but all shoes do that. I just have low ankles.” He looks her square in the eyes and says, “You think you deserve that pain, but you don’t.” Danielle sat me down with a delicious glass of her own homemade kombucha and asked me where my pain was and how long I had been dealing with it. It shocked me to realize it’s been almost 10 years. I think that when you deal with something like that for long enough, it just becomes a normal – albeit uncomfortable – part of life. But it doesn’t have to be, and I’m very grateful to Danielle for helping me realize that. I came here because of a Groupon, which I had purchased a few months back as a somewhat indulgent gift to myself on a payday. Massages always seemed like exuberant luxuries I couldn’t afford. It had been about three years since my last massage, and my muscles were begging me on their sore knees to help them out. It was just a wonderful experience from start to finish. Danielle was extremely warm and friendly in the most genuine way. Her space is very relaxed and open. Lots of wood and earthy colors. She made me feel very comfortable and in control, and did frequent check-ins to make sure I was getting the pressure I wanted. She even asked me to choose the Pandora station, which was a pleasant surprise. Unlike the few other massage therapists I’ve been to in the past, Danielle doesn’t just have her own routine to do and go home. She genuinely wants to help you heal in the best way that works for you, and she has the talent to follow through. She also did a great thing for me by asking about my health insurance. It turns out my insurance covers 27 massages a year for a small copay, which I had NO idea about for the last 4 years of my achey life. So I’m really looking forward to going back, especially now that I can afford it. Do your muscles a favor and schedule some table time."

"I had a fantastic massage with Mariya! I've had very nice massages in very expensive resorts before and they don't hold a candle to her! Can't beat the price for quality, it's just not possible. I was blown away. Usually massages are a once in a while treat for me, but I may start going regularly. She did absolutely amazing work. I wish I could give her 6 stars."

"This was a very open and welcoming environment. The massage therapist listened to my history; and was able to cultivate a massage technique that- unlike previous massages at other locations- I wasn’t in pain 48 hours later. I’ll definitely be going back."

"This was an overall great massage/acupressure experience. It was very easy to schedule the appointment on line and to receive an email from Lori Conrad asking me about my specific needs was so very nice. The massage/acupressure appointment was most enjoyable. Lori is a very knowledgeable massage therapist and has her massage technique is outstanding. I have had massages since 1970 and she is truly one of the best I have ever had. Lori's massages are also a complete 1 hour sessions not 45-50 mins. and I appreciated this very much. Anyone scheduling a massage appointment with Lori Conrad at Tranquil Table Therapeutic Massage will not be disappointed. I certainly was not and look forward to my next appointment with Lori. Thank you very much."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
