Introduction: ***************Covid - 19 and Remote Tutoring Update*************** Due to Covid - 19 and lack of demand, I have closed my physical office and I am exclusively seeing students remotely. I have been offering remote services for a few years now but with the pandemic pushing everything online I have really been able to dial in the use of technology. I use Zoom (or GoToMeeting if you prefer) and a digital drawing tablet in coordination with Khan Academy and PDF versions of textbooks and worksheets to help my students get the most out of our sessions. I always cater my session to the individual student's needs and typically assign homework each session to be completed before we next meet. I have digital tools to check for completion as well as give a detailed report of our progress. This in turn allows me to focus on the student's individual strengths and weaknesses . I have attached screenshots from my classes to display how all the technology works and the general format of the classes, but please feel free to message me with any questions you may have. ***************************************************************************** My name is Alexander Maso, I am a Lewis and Clark Alumnus and the sole proprietor of Maso Tutoring LLC. I have built my own private tutoring business over the last 6 years and I have been teaching for just over 10 years now. I taught the SAT, ACT and SAT2s with Kaplan Test Prep for over 5 years and worked for in-school tutoring companies funded by No Child Left Behind as well as many other teaching and tutoring companies over the years. After years of teaching, I came to find that I enjoy the private "one-on-one" tutoring work most of all and set out to create a business of my own. I opened an office in Beaverton in 2014 and have been seeing students as well as working remotely from there since. I teach high school through undergraduate level mathematics and science classes as well as the HSPT, SAT, ACT and many SAT2s. Over the years I have come to developed a diverse range of methods for engaging different students but it always ultimately boils down to getting the student involved, even excited in their own education. I have come to believe that, while not entirely ineffective, lots of repetition, drills and dry memorization are not a very effective way to teach. We instead take time to focus on conceptual understanding and to link our current topic to past ones and even to things outside of the classroom. I believe in having a friendly relationship with my students and will always take a few minutes to discuss what is going on in their life. My goal is always to make our sessions as enjoyable as possible for my students; to make sure they feel comfortable asking questions or saying they do not understand. I have always found that good teaching is not only about helping to student to understand the topic but also about showing them they are able to learn anything if they are willing to show up, ask questions and put in the work.

This review is long overdue! Alex was WONDERFUL with my teenage daughter! She struggled with college algebra and was ready to give up after hiring two tutors that didn't have the knowledge to help her. Thank goodness we decided to try Alex first! He was so easy to work with and he really understands how to teach in a way that makes sense to the learner. Paige successfully completed her college algebra class with an A and is so thankful for Alex's help! Thanks so much Alex!

Details: Undergraduate school • Precalculus • 14 - 17 years old • Learn new topics and techniques • As recommended by teacher • My home, venue, etc. • At the pro’s location

Thank you for the incredibly kind review! Paige was a great student and a pleasure to work with. Glad to know that I was able to help and, if you ever need another tutor, I hope to hear from you again.

Alex has been a life saver. As a 33 year old professional I have always been held back do to math. I went to college twice and both times failed do to my weak math skills.. 3 years of college and nothing to show for it. I tried several tutors over the years who could not teach me. They would just look at me and say "I don't understand how to teach you." I could not even do fractions. As a right brain learner I began to feel hopeless... After a month with Alex I am through fractions and have begun algerbra! I'm going to attend penn state where Calculus is required and I know with the help of Alex I can do it. I'm actually starting to enjoy math! Very strange for me haha Why I reccomended alex: He uses many different approaches to teaching He creates a relaxed environment He can read body language to see if you comprehend Plus more If your a right brained learner or your child is and you feel hopeless you really should give him a chance. It has already changed my outlook and believe will save my life!

Maso Tutoring was excellent. My son needed help with his Math Analysis Honors class and after the 1st class he was smiling and stated how he was finally understanding. My son said problems were explained step by step and he enjoyed working with Mr. Maso. His math grade improved. I'm so glad we found Mr. Maso. We would definitely use him again if needed.

Details: High school • Precalculus • Calculus • Trigonometry • 18 - 25 years old • Improve grades at school • More than once a week • My home, venue, etc. • Remotely (phone or internet)

Alex Maso has been my tutor for over four years and helped me greatly throughout high school and is now helping me in college. I went from a student that was struggling in math to excelling in each math class that I took. He explains concepts perfectly and really cares about his students (i.g. reaching out to me even after the session to make sure I understood what we went over that day). He is also very flexible and is willing to add extra time slots during test times. I would recommend Alex to anyone that is struggling in math and needs more understanding of concepts that can be hard to acquire in large class sizes.
