I first hired Luis and Eddie to install a water feature in my front yard. Since then, they have done a ton of projects in my yard, including aerating and overseeding my lawn, cleaning up my back yard in the spring and spreading mulch, and installing a gravel walkway in the backyard. They are now also maintaining my yard twice a month. They do a great job and clearly, I like the quality of their work since I keep hiring them :). This summer, they installed a 900sq ft paver patio, and I am pretty pleased with it. We still have a little way to go before its completed, but so far, it's been a great addition to my outdoor area and has helped me maximize my outdoor living space. I would recommend them highly.

Colin helped me fix my yard, it had gotten a little out of hand. The grass was kind of long and the quotes I recieved from two other companies were really high, I don't think they wanted the work. One said he didn't know what was in the grass, and wasn't going to ruin his equipment. Colin was referred to me by a friend, and he showed up with his tools, ready to go. I just watched him work for a while, the rythmic whispers of the scythe are actually kind of cool. I felt like I had a premium kind of artisanal yard service or something. He actually charged less than the other guys too. After cutting and trimming with the scythe and some other tools, He took out this big orange reel mower that cropped the grass. I had asked him about doing some fertilizer since I thought that's what you were supposed to do (this is my first house, and I'm learning), but he told me the amount of grass he'd mulched up and worked back into the lawn would be a really good initial dose, and that its easy to over fertilize and then just end up trying to keep up with the extra growth most people cause. So yeah, I had a great experience, and will continue to use the service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
