What sets Rick Lilley apart from other guitar teachers? This guy can play and teach anything! Before I found Rick, I interviewed a couple other teachers and was very discouraged...I thought the teacher I always dreamed of did not exist. They all told me what they would teach me and how (buy this book, we'll go through each lesson one by one). I envisioned myself like several friends who took guitar lessons: giving up after 6 months of struggling with a few chords and never having learned a single song. Rick simply said what do you want to play? I want to play Rolling Stones, Darius Rucker, Beatles...? Sure. Lesson one: 8 chords that every other chord is based on, and a few bars of Knockin' on Heaven's Door. Sounds intimidating but he is patient, and willing to go over it as much as needed. I greatly look forward to my lesson every week after a year and a half. It usually starts with me picking a song I really want to play or him suggesting one based on specific skills I need to work on. If it is a song he has never heard he will work it out on the spot and teach it. I'm not talking about telling me a couple chords or handing me the tab (I'm not even sure if that's the correct term). Rick shows me the chords, (and if there are several to chose from up the neck), rhythm, and the fun bits (slides, slurs, arpeggio, solos). At the end of the lesson he will write a basic chart of the song, and I sometimes take a video of him playing it. Rick is available to help if I need during the week and will answer little questions by phone or text (I have literally sent him a picture of my left hand on guitar and asked if it looked like an F minor.) He also went shopping with me when I went to buy my first guitar, and found me a stellar deal, and an instrument I love. He is the guy to ask about any equipment, and even does adjustments and talked me through the first time changing the strings. Now I enjoy playing Eli Young Band or Beatles songs and singing along with my 6 year old, something I could only dream of a couple years ago. Taking lessons with Rick is the best thing I have ever done for myself and my whole family feels lucky we know him! Cannot say enough good things about taking lessons with Rick.
Rick is just what I was looking for in guitar lessons. I needed to break through a long term staleness and I could tell from the first lesson that I would become much more active in finally moving forward. The teacher is most importantly the catalyst.
Great teacher! Very patient and tranfers his passion for guitar and music! He provides tricks to learn guitar -specially if u are new in the field- but more importantly motivates greatly to play it!
Landon Strine was my personal voice coach for a year. Weekly visits to my house (at a very affordable rate) were helpful to me and my singing in so many ways. Landons approach is compassionate, concise, information-filled (did you know there is a science to singing? ) and fun. Over the months, we saw inprovements in range, tone, control and confidence. He helped with my song writing and studio set-up as well. I'm sad to lose him to Ashland, but I'm still singing and better than ever! Dann W., Portland, OR.
We're very excited to begin lessons with Landon. Our son is still rather young (3 y.o.), but Landon's creative approach, calm demeanor and clear love for music has been reassuring. I truly appreciate the balance he keeps of making the lesson informative as well as fun!
Landon is so musically talented! He is a great music and vocal teacher. He is great with kids. He is just the best! My son has learned so much from Landon and looks forward to his lessons with Landon. Your child will grow musically and be so proud and happy with Landon.

Hello. My name is Sammy, and I'm a guitarist and glass artist in Glendale, Oregon. I have been playing guitar, both acoustic and electric, for about 7 years. I am self-taught, and I hope to teach a basic understanding of chords, scales, and how they all fit together. I will teach you to read guitar tablature and even how to play some of your favorite songs. The first lesson we will talk about is where you want to take this and to see if you want me to teach you what you'd like. I will show you some of the techniques that I hope to teach.
Along with full music theory, easy navigation techniques and lessons for the guitar, we also have a recording studio for the up and coming artist's budget.

I’m not going to say that I know how to Play music and read and all that, I am entirely self taught unfortunately can’t read music but I’ve been playing for 18 years and love passing on the knowledge I have picked up
We teach our students the music that they want to learn. I always tell new students to make a list of their all time favorite songs and then we work towards learning them. Fun is the most important thing to have when playing music.
We analyze the music into easily understandable concepts and techniques, which promotes a strong foundation for your playing. I use Aaron Shearer's "Classic Guitar Technique" and Scott Tenant's "Pumping Nylon" as handbooks for my students along with other loose sheet materials. I ask my students to invest in a tuner and a metronome. The student will learn music theory, how to read music, aural skills (ear training), fingerboard techniques (slurs, hammer-ons, finger positioning, etc.), and musical phrasing. Every player is unique in style. Lessons are customized for each student depending on where you are and what you want to accomplish on the guitar. A typical lesson would involve healthy sitting and hand posture, picking techniques, arpeggios, scales, and playing through a piece of music together that will be taken home with you to practice for the following lesson.
