Nick has been giving my son (age 10) drum lessons for a year and a half. Nick has a great repartee with kids and his methods (reading sheets / playing along side) seem to really propel the learning experience. His personality in general is wonderful (friendly, cheerful, easy to work with). His studio is cozy but comfortable (separate waiting area for parents/sibs if desired) and the convenient location is a plus for our busy schedule.
I came across Duncan on Thumbtack, while looking for someone to teach me to play the drums. I had recently been given a drum set from the guy I'm seeing, who used to be a professional drummer, so I had an incentive to learn. And to learn quickly. I'm so glad I found Duncan! Even though I'm not in any way musically gifted and have no sense of rhythm, Duncan had me playing four drum rhythms, seven fills, several variations of jazz beats, a disco beat, and basic bossanova within ten weeks, one 30 minute lesson per week. Obviously I'm not going to sound like a pro yet, but my friends and boyfriend were impressed. If you knew my utter lack of talent and rhythm, you'd know that's pretty amazing. As a kid I was forced to take piano lessons, and because I didn't enjoy them, I was hesitant about the drum lessons. However, the speed with which I've learned useful rhythms with Duncan's "hands on" method has made the drums way more fun than the piano. I practice daily and I love it, because Duncan doesn't waste my time with mindless beginner exercises, I'm actually playing the drums. Duncan's endorsed (or whatever the word is) by Vic Firth, the company that makes the drum sticks you see everywhere, so Duncan's given me free sticks, a set of brushes, and a bunch of sheet music. Oh, and while I had a head start from playing the piano, I was never really able to read piano music, even after five years. Yet somehow Duncan showed me how to read music for the drums in a single lesson, it turned out to be super easy, and now I can read anything you put in front of me. I'm amazed by the progress I've made thus far. Now after four months, I can play entire songs from start to finish, I can operate the hi-hat and bass drum at the same time with the pedals while using my hands on the toms and snare, and I have learned a wide variety of techniques Highly recommended!
I really enjoy Jason More music lessons. I very much appreciate his ability to explain complex concepts in a very simple way allowing me to grow fast in my music learning and skill. Jason is the best teacher I had so far. Thanks.
Jeff has given our son drum lessons for 7 years. Jeff is encouraging, understanding and very fun. He is excited and enthusiastic about our son's progress and passionate about music. He strives to teach what is necessary to learn and the type of music the student is interested in. Our "likes to sleep in" son has no problem getting up on a Saturday morning to go to his lesson!
Terry is a top-notch music educator and a real quality guy to boot. I would highly recommend drum lessons with Terry.
Naomi 7 year old has had 2 drum lessons and so far is very happy. She ran to the door when we arrived for the second lesson and I see that as a good sign
My son has been taking drum lessons with Hayden and continues to improve. He really enjoys working with Hayden and appreciates his patience and enthusiasm.
I’ve been taking lessons from Tom for at least a few years now. I had been self-teaching and clearly not advancing in a very productive manner along with garnering some bad habits. I’m very happy I found Tom and I’m making great advances though there’s always a long way to go. He is an amazing drummer (go see Euge Organ Trio at Solae’s) and a great teacher. He seems to thoroughly enjoy playing & teaching. He’s very well versed in just about all music/rhythms on the planet. (That may be an exaggeration, but seems that way to me) He’s particularly adept/experienced in the jazz/funk/street music of New Orleans as well as with the rhythms historically feeding into the New Orleans mix, including Latin, African & native rhythms. And, this has evolved into one of my main interests now as well. Check his web site, he’s had incredible experience & education. I find it completely worthwhile to learn from a clear professional (especially compared to some prior lessons I’d tried). I’d be happy to expound/discuss further if you'd like, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Just started learning Drums this year - a bit late to the game as I'm in my 50s. Toby has been excellent, knowledgeable and always introducing new concepts and challenges every lesson. I very much enjoy each lesson. Thanks Toby :-)
Ryan gives drum lessons to my 10 year old son, Josh. Josh has a blast! Ryan is technically a great drummer and instructor, but still connects with Josh like no other instructor has. I highly recommend Ryan.
I have been teaching since 1978. I have heplped many students, to professional careers as well as preparing students for College acceptance including scholarships.
I will be training you in the arts of Korean marching drums, Balinese vocal percussion, and hand drumming and drum sets -- oh yes drum sets.
I teach modern and traditional drumming techniques to students. There are no age requirements, just the willingness to learn and to have a love for all things music.
I care about my clients success in drumming and realize Oregon City may be a bit far from downtown Portland. If you need a ride from the bus stop downtown OC, I may be able to arrange that. I have been through symphonic band, Jazz band, Pep Band, Marching Band and in the last 12 years, full band performance playing on stage with local church worship teams playing all sort of styles of music.
In my experience i have worked with hundreds of students with hundreds of different personalities. I feel i have a very good understanding of people and their drumming needs. You can say I'm a people person :):)
I provide drum lessons for the totally committed. I am a drumming instructor for students of rock, metal of all extremities, trance, and break beat drumming (i.e. if you wanted to record your own beats using a kit).
I offer customized drum lessons that are tailored to the student's experience, age and skill level. As a freelance drummer in Portland, my playing experience and knowledge of different styles gives me a well-rounded perspective. As someone that has taken lessons since the age of eight, I've developed my own teaching method by combining the lessons that were most influential to my playing. I play in multiple touring bands and have performed at some of the best venues in town, including Pickathon Music Festival, Mississippi Studios, the 1905, the Jack London and several others. I also have experience working with children. So if you or your child have always wanted to try taking up the drums, now is the time.

My name is Justin Radford, and I offer weekly lessons to those interested in rudimental snare drum, and/or drumset in various musical styles. I give weekly half-hour lessons at $20 per week, and at $30 for one-hour lessons. My Tuesday evenings are filling up fast, so call or e-mail today!
Hey everyone! My name is Benjamin Copsey. I am 21 years old, very friendly and open to anyone with a passion for music. I have been a guitar instructor for 5 years now and would like to expand my clientele. In my classes, it's up to the student what they want to learn! For example, if you or your child wanted to learn guitar so you could play your favorite song and determined to learn it in a week, I would be the man to go to.
I have been playing drums for nine years, and I can teach almost any style of drumming for beginners and onwards. It is difficult to find an honest drum teacher without having you shred your wallet for not even a good-quality teaching. I am not like that. I hate to drag the time and not teach my students anything. I absolutely love seeing my students progress through drumming.
